Job description

Job summary:

Support flavor chemists in broad variety of functions including compounding, preparing emulsions and extracts and other processing. Performs physical and chemical testing using lab or pilot plant equipment. Provides feedback to flavorist including operations performed, observations, results and organoleptic evaluations. Must conform to recommended safety, quality and GMP practices. Maintains current raw material inventory, flavor retention libraries and other lab supplies. Cares for equipment and arranges for repair/replacement if necessary.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

* Accurately compounds a broad range of flavors such emulsions, extracts, and liquid mixtures from formulations provided by flavor chemist
* Prepares formulations for spray drying or other processing
* Operates pilot scale spray dryer and homogenizer
* Conducts physical, chemical and organoleptic testing; makes oral and written observations on process and outcome to provide feedback to flavorist
* Responsible for data entry into DevEx system to document and ship samples
* Maintains a safe and professional laboratory environment; complies with government and company safety directives
* Maintains equipment and organized inventory; requests purchase orders or work orders for required raw materials, equipment or repairs
* Utilizes good communication skills, both written and oral; enters and maintains accurate and thorough records as required
* Completes tasks in timely fashion according to priorities provided by Manager
* Participates in formal Sensory panels as well as day to day organoleptic evaluations and screenings of flavors
* Performs other duties as assigned to support needs of business

Skills & Abilities:

* Associates degree or equivalent lab experience
* Ability to follow detailed product preparation instructions and prepare samples quickly and accurately
* Well organized, able to handle multiple tasks daily, and operate in a safe and responsible manner in the lab
* Strong work ethic, ability to work well with others and a positive can-do attitude
* Must be able to lift 30 lbs and stand frequently
* Proficient in the use of MS Office programs and able to learn new systems quickly
* Must use required personal protective equipment which may include use of a respirator
