Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois is a non-profit organization with 11 stores, five donation centers, a logistics center and an online auction site. In addition, we operate two employment service centers and a veterans' home. The money raised by the sale of donations goes to fund our free programs. Goodwill helps people find jobs, assists our veterans with job services and resource referral, matches young people with mentors and operates a 15 bed veterans' home. Goodwill has been serving Central Illinois since 1934.

We have an exciting opportunity as a Computer Instructor! This is a part-time position located at our Commons in Peoria, IL. The entry level computer instructor will work Monday - Friday, 1st shift.

You will teach a variety of essential computer skills classes for our clients as they work to develop and improve their skills. Classes will be conducted either in-person in our state-of-the-art computer labs, or facilitated virtually through Zoom. Our Goodwill Mission is supporting individuals and families looking to better their lives, and we need you to help us provide our community with needed digital skills for the jobs of tomorrow!

Position Highlights

  • Teach in-person and virtual classes to help train our clients in a variety of digital skills (ex. Computer basics, Word, Excel, G-Suite)
  • Assist in developing new instructional courses to help clients build essential digital skills
  • Provide instruction using handouts, texts, audio visual aids and other materials
  • Administer client assessments to measure knowledge gained.
  • Contribute and collaborate with members of the team to meet program outcomes
  • Essential Responsibilities
  • Delivers a variety of digital literacy skills training courses that are most desired by community employers.
  • Provides instruction through varied modalities: in-person, individual, blended learning, and virtual/online as appropriate.
  • Assesses participants' ability to use computers to recommend best class placement.
  • Assists participants in practicing newly acquired skills.
  • Conducts pre and post testing assessment to demonstrate knowledge gained from class instruction.
  • Provides input into course curriculum to ensure ongoing effectiveness and relevance. Assists with development of new training courses to meet community needs.
  • Provides input into class schedule, and coordinates with other department staff to recruit class participants.
  • Evaluates and reports issues with computer equipment and hardware.
  • Maintains accurate class attendance and record data in Goodwill tracking system.
  • Works closely with all Program Services staff to continually seek ways to share resources and services for the overall benefit of the population we serve.
  • Ensures the safety of participants, staff and others by following all organizational and programmatic policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Summarized Qualifications
  • Two-year college degree or equivalent number of year's related experience and/or training. Teaching experience, or a strong desire to teach others, a plus!
  • Possess great skills in oral and written communication, time management, customer service, and communication. Excellent active listening skills. Must be a self-starter, great team player.
  • Ability to conduct in-person as well as virtual classroom instructions.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification required. The training will be offered by Goodwill.
  • Valid Driver's License and Proof of Vehicle Insurance may be required.
  • Commitment to continued learning and engaged participation in mandatory trainings offered by Goodwill.
