Description # Technologists in the Microbiology Laboratory at Deaconess Hospital participate in complex testing in the areas of bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, virology, parasitology, urinalysis, body fluid analysis, and serology. Technologists cultivate, isolate, and identify pathogens, perform chemical and physical evaluation of fluids including sterile body fluids and urine, assist in the evaluation and implementation of new methodologies, and perform quality control, routine maintenance, and other duties as assigned.## Additional job responsibilities and qualifications: Technologists are expected to perform and interpret tests accurately and efficiently, record and communicate results appropriately, and follow established policies and procedures. Qualified applicants should have critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and possess the ability to recognize critical and/or abnormal results relating to Microbiology. # Qualifications # Qualified candidates must be certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician or be eligible for certification at the time of employment. Proof of education will be required. Experience in a clinical Microbiology laboratory is strongly preferred. # Microbiology # Microbiology includes bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, parasitology, virology, urinalysis, body fluid analysis and serology testing, Sample receipt and processing is performed by microbiology support staff.# Our dedicated Technologists use leading-edge technology, including MicroScan, IRIS, APTIMA and GeneXpert, to diagnose infection diseases.# Microbiology is a full-service section during the day, with stat and limited testing available on other shifts. # Deaconess Lab # Deaconess Laboratory Staff work in a progressive, highly computerized environment that performs services for inpatients and outpatients and emergency room patients.# The health system includes six hospitals, more than 25 primary care locations and several specialty facilities.# We have full-service Laboratories at Deaconess Hospital and Deaconess Gateway Hospital and more than 325 employees in the labs and outreach locations.# We invite you to join the team and thank you for your interest in Deaconess Laboratory opportunities. ##Description
