Job description

Job Summary

This position will be filled as Senior Instructional Lab Manager or a Lead Instructional Lab Manager. The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.

This position has primary responsibility for developing and operating the laboratory learning environment to support the multidisciplinary design projects that are developed in the EPICS Program, while serving as a liaison to other lab/shop facilities and IT support on campus. The program requires a person who is responsible for the physical laboratory as well as training and educational experiences for students, TA's and faculty to maximize the impact of the investment in the laboratory for their application to the design projects.

Senior Instructional Lab Manager:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Technology or related field
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in the practice or teaching of engineering or technology
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of required education and work experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills, with the ability to work with people of various backgrounds
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to learn and adapt to changing learning environments
  • Ability to work with students, undergraduate and graduate, and faculty to educate and train them on the operation and capabilities of electronic and mechanical equipment, computers, and/or computer software as they apply to their design projects
  • Ability to take the initiative to solve problems, assume responsibility, establish and maintain quality standards


Lead Instructional Lab Manager:

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Technology or related field
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience in the practice or teaching of engineering or technology
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of required education and work experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills, with the ability to work with people of various backgrounds
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to learn and adapt to changing learning environments
  • Ability to work with students, undergraduate and graduate, and faculty to educate and train them on the operation and capabilities of electronic and mechanical equipment, computers, and/or computer software as they apply to their design projects
  • Ability to take the initiative to solve problems, assume responsibility, establish and maintain quality standards


Preferred:
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Technology or related field
  • Knowledge of CAD modeling tools and software coding, web development, electrical instrumentation, 3D printing, micro-controllers, machining, and woodworking
