As the company's second line of defense, Corporate Risk - or Independent Risk Management - provides independent oversight of risk-taking activities. Independent Risk Management establishes and maintains Wells Fargo's risk management program and provides oversight, including challenges to and independent assessment of, the frontline's execution of its risk management responsibilities. We manage risk according to the Risk Management Framework and ensure all employees understand their individual accountability for managing risk. Corporate Risk roles depend on a variety of skills, including: Data analysis and synthesis, root cause analysis, change management, process management & execution, risk governance, risk strategy, risk identification & assessment, risk prevention, controls & mitigation, risk monitoring, reporting & escalation, risk systems & technology.

Enterprise Senior Risk Officer, Branch Banking Risk Oversight
3 Positions Available

The individuals selected for these opportunities will align with the Consumer and Small Business Banking (CSBB) organization supporting the Branch Banking Risk Oversight group. The organizational design will follow a consistent framework, while allowing customization to meet the needs of the business. The three openings will align to the following Groups:

  • Branch Banking Operations and Supervision (1 role): This role independently oversees the functions performed by Branch Banking Operations and Supervision to strengthen accountability around risk identification, compliance, supervision, and issue management - all critical to our success.
  • Consumer Banking National Business Development (1 role): This role independently oversees the functions performed for branch strategy, distribution, management and operating routines, staffing models, P&Ls, business performance and incentive programs, among other areas
  • Regional Branch Banking (1 role): This role independently oversees the functions performed for all Branch Banking regions and its more than 40,000 employees. This role will also support the strategic growth of Affluent Clients through cross-business collaboration across Wealth Management and Consumer Lending.

In addition to primary accountability for aligned business groups, the Senior Risk Officers may be accountable for oversight of other key functions such as business strategy, strategic partnerships, risk policy or programs - and/or Chief Risk Organization (CRO) initiatives or management functions that cut across the business groups, contribute to CSBB CRO initiatives or advancement of the Wells Fargo CRO execution model.

These (3) Senior Risk Officers will report directly to the CRO for Branch Banking, and will leverage their experience and knowledge of risk management, business functions, products and services to provide independent, holistic and oversight of the business risks. Responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee and actively manage risks within the risk appetite approved by the Operating Committee and the Board, oversee the continued refinement and/or development of appropriate controls within the Consumer Small Business Banking segment
  • Advise CSBB senior leadership regarding appropriate operations policies and processes leveraging risk management metrics/business scorecard, track performance and monitor trends across the business
  • Develop an aggregated holistic view of risks in the CSBB business segment. This includes an understanding across compliance risk, credit risk, operational risk, reputation risk, and strategic risk - both in aggregate and individually
  • Identify and escalate risk and control issues to the Business Line CRO and CSBB Chief Risk Officer with transparency, in a timely manner and in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Lead the development of the strategic planning process to assess risks within business line; provide credible challenge to CSBB senior leadership
  • Completion of emerging risk deep dives and understanding themes and trends across industry and competitor landscape
  • Understand the risks within other businesses across the enterprise (i.e. WIM, Consumer Lending, etc.); identify themes and partner with risk stripes to assess and mitigate any potential risks
  • Serve as a subject matter expert regarding new policy and guidelines interpretation
  • Create risk presentations and present regularly to key stakeholders
  • Drive the execution of remediation plans and regulatory commitments, as applicable
  • Promote a strong risk management culture and discipline throughout the CSBB

Locations

  • These are in-office positions in the one of the following markets: Charlotte/Ft. Mill, NC; Minneapolis, MN; Des Moines/West Des Moines, IA; Phoenix, AZ; Dallas/Irving, TX; St. Louis, MO.
  • No relocation assistance is available for these positions.


Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 10+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 7+ years must include direct experience in risk management

Other Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience with end-to-end consumer and small business products throughout both the product management and customer life-cycle.
  • Understanding of channel interaction, segmentation, marketing, cost and revenue drivers; working knowledge of other consumer products and interdependencies preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience of Small Business lending and deposit products.
  • Familiarity or experience with other risks types (i.e. credit, operational or compliance risk)
  • Ability to apply critical thinking in describing multiple risks into a single risk landscape
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Strategic thinking ability
  • Possess a strong business and risk acumen


Job Expectations

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
