Attached to the hospital is a 50,000-square-foot medical office building containing local physician practices and the hospital's physical medicine and rehabilitation center.MercyOne Newton is one of the largest employers in Jasper County, along with the local school system and the county government.ResponsibilitiesPOSITION SUMMARY: Provides efficient secretarial, receptionist, administrative support for department to ensure a smoothly functioning office and superior patient relations with minimal oversight from supervisors. Works well with others in a team-oriented environment. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Cordially deal with the public; cordially receives patients and guests, ascertain their needs, and appropriately direct patients, guests, and callers.Handles administrative and personnel information with strict confidentiality; protect the reputation and integrity of others through strict confidentiality; demonstrate a high level of trust.Operates computer efficiently to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support software.Uses automated systems to access, enter, and edit patient information/documentation.Answers telephone/voicemail, screens callers, relays messages, and greets visitors.Performs key duties efficiently and effectively:Scheduling patient appointments Obtains pre-authorizations as required by patients' health care insurers or managed care providersAssists patients or family members with completion of medical insurance forms. Assists with patient intake including copying of insurance cards, completion of physician specific paperwork and building patient charts.File and distribute physician ordersAccurately schedules appointments for patients for evaluations, consultations and treatments as well as other designated hospital departments when ordered by physiciansAct as liaison between patient and providerRequest pertinent hospital / clinic records as needed. Maintain an inventory of office suppliesManage release of information documentation when neededCollects patient co pays for services, if applicableTriage all incoming callsWork with providers to manage their schedules and patient wait timesQualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: Maintains BLS at Healthcare Provider LevelAble to read, write and follow written and oral instructionsOperates a computer efficientlyExcellent phone etiquette and communication skillsAble to multi-taskRemains composed in a busy, stressful environmentOrganizedIndependent decision makerAble to establish work prioritiesEDUCATION: High School Graduate or equivalentEXPERIENCE: Medical office & terminology experience preferred but not required
