Corporate Risk
Corporate Risk helps all Wells Fargo businesses identify and manage risk. The team focuses on several key risk types, including conduct, credit, financial crimes, information security, interest rate, liquidity, market, model, operational, regulatory compliance, reputation, strategic, and technology risk. The group provides leadership, enhances communications, assists with problem identification and solutions, and shares best practices. In addition, the group provides an enterprise-wide view of risk, assists management and our Board of Directors in identifying and monitoring risks that may affect multiple lines of business, and takes appropriate action when business activities exceed the risk tolerance of the company.

Auto Chief Risk Officer Team
The Auto Chief Risk Officer (CRO) team has primary accountability for overseeing all risks types related to the Auto lending business. The Auto CRO team provides independent, holistic risk leadership and oversight of the business, creating streamlined interaction with independent risk management and a comprehensive view of risks across all business areas within Auto. The CRO team is embedded in Independent Risk Management.
Position Overview
The Head of Auto Strategy, Planning & Governance Risk will report directly to the Auto CRO with a dual report into the Head of Strategy, Planning & Governance for Consumer Lending Risk. This leader will play a key role in driving the strategy and operations of the Auto Risk organization. They will lead independent risk oversight of several key risk types (reputation risk, strategic risk, enterprise risk) for the Auto line of business and oversee controls and governance for processes owned by the Auto Risk team. The Auto CRO will lean heavily on this individual to run the CRO operating model and provide strong independent oversight.
This leader will lead a team of risk professionals who will ensure that Corporate Risk provides senior management with an independent perspective of the level of risk to which Auto is exposed across various risk types. In addition to directly leading a team of credit risk professionals, they will accomplish this through close coordination with the current Auto aligned risk type leads (for Compliance, Operational Risk and Independent Testing & Validation) and through coordination with experts in various risk types (e.g. Modeling, strategic risk, reputational risk) within Corporate Risk. This leader may be the delegate to the Auto CRO in many governance forums and will regularly present to senior management in Auto, Consumer Lending, Risk Management and regulators on the risk position of the businesses for which they are aligned.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Management & Strategy

  • Workforce planning and reporting, business operations and logistics, desktop technology, mobility and SharePoint solutions, third party program and expense management
  • Location strategy and space management
  • Financial management, forecasting and allocations in partnership with CRO leadership and finance
  • Enterprise program delivery and execution (business resiliency, EUCT, privacy/data, recovery and resolution planning, records management)
  • Early talent management and team engagement including project management of DE&I initiatives
  • Risk workforce initiatives and move the lines coordination
  • Covered employee risk assessment execution
  • Staffing adequacy program for front line units
  • Program management for risk data and technology initiatives
Enterprise Risk Programs
  • Oversight of strategic risk in Auto in coordination with Consumer Lending CRO team and Corporate Risk
  • Oversight of reputational risk in Auto in coordination with Consumer Lending CRO team and Corporate Risk
  • Oversight of climate risk in Auto in coordination with Consumer Lending CRO team and Corporate Risk
  • Credit policy administration including requirements from corporate credit risk programs
CRO Oversight Program
  • Identify, establish and productionalize engagement routines between risk type teams (credit risk, operational risk, compliance, IT&V, and other risk types as required) to ensure effective build out and operationalizing of CRO oversight model
  • Monitor engagement between different teams reporting directly to CRO as well as other risk type teams (ops risk, compliance, IT&V, and others as required) to ensure that key business risks, issues and initiatives receive integrated attention and solutions
  • Ensure governance processes and reporting are inclusive of all risk types and result in effective and integrated CRO communication and appropriate escalations to Auto Risk Committee, Consumer Lending Risk Committee, other senior governance committees, ERCC and Board
  • Monitor staffing adequacy for CRO leadership team (including risk types other than credit risk) to assess whether CRO oversight program is effective
  • Manage control programs, regulatory interactions, and exams for Auto Risk

This role requires leaders with strong relationship management, influencing, vision, and execution skills. This role requires a sense of urgency, passion for results, and personal accountability for achievement.

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in one or more of the following functional areas: business process, quality assurance, strategic planning, or project management
  • 8+ years of management experience
Other Desired Qualifications
  • Proven experience in governance and oversight of Risk programs
  • Knowledge and understanding of Consumer Lending programs and products
  • Direct experience with Risk programs, risk appetite, Risk ID and assessment, risk measurement
  • Direct experience with reputational and strategic risk management
  • Knowledge and understanding of climate risk management
  • Knowledge and understanding of ever-evolving regulatory environments and governance processes
  • Proven experience building, leading, and engaging high-performing, diverse, and inclusive teams
  • Proven ability to foster constructive relationships with regulatory agencies, peers at other financial institutions, business leaders, and other internal risk management leaders/groups
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and effectively build relationships within a matrixed environment to influence outcomes both within Auto, Consumer Lending and IRM
  • Strong leadership and people management skills to lead a large and geographically dispersed organization Evidence of ensuring team has the right capabilities and number of resources

  • Capable of working under pressure with equanimity while managing a high volume of information/priorities
  • Strong educational credentials with an M.B.A. or Master's degree preferred
