We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Lab Analyst within our Taft Plant located in Hahnville, Louisiana.
Essential Job Functions:
* Perform all analyses accurately using approved analytical procedures, handling most of the non-routine and special project sampling analysis and support.
* Report results promptly and with an emphasis on deviations from process/plant limits.
* Prepare reagents and standards.
* Troubleshoot primary work area and equipment, requesting assistance when needed.
* Have expert level knowledge in two or more areas including Environmental Testing, Atomic Absorption (AA) Operation, Lachat Operation, Wet Testing, and Gas Chromatograph (GC) Operation.
* Calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain all lab equipment. This includes preventative maintenance activities.
* Issue maintenance work requests, requisitions and arrange sample shipments as requested/needed.
* Actively supports plant and corporate safety, environmental, and quality programs and objectives and meets HESS spreadsheet requirements
* Order and manage inventory of supplies and equipment to support both lab and plant labs functions along with processing monthly expense reports.
* Ensure Environmental compliance (e.g. wastewater and groundwater) Analysis requirements are met including: Adherence to sample schedule, accuracy of paperwork, calibration frequency is met, and abnormality are reported promptly to supervision.
* Review procedures according to schedule.
* Assist as document custodian or with record management as needed.
* Keep laboratory well organized and facilities well maintained.
* Supports plant goals and completes individual goals as developed with supervision oversight and document activities in Talent Management System.
* Be available for overtime and call-outs when needed including during emergency periods such as hurricanes
* Two semesters of college chemistry preferred.
* Experience in a chemical manufacturing environment preferred.
* Experience in a chemical manufacturing lab environment preferred.
* Strong Mechanical Aptitude.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to read, write and speak in English.
* Must be able to respond to off hour emergencies.
* Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
* Ability to work weekends, holidays and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis.
* Must be able to lift 40 lbs., climb ladders and stairs.
* Walking, bending, stooping is required.
* Must be able to wear personal protective equipment.
* Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
