Position Summary:

The Future Society (TFS) is looking for an Accountant/CPA to help formalize our finance function. You will be responsible for leading the compilation of yearly financials, managing audits, and advising on a regular basis on accounting, financial and fiscal questions faced by our growing 501(c)(c). The role is remote and requires a motivated, self-starting professional who is ready to help build the finance function our organization needs to scale and succeed. As we are a small organisation, your advice will shape the growth of The Future Society and be crucial for its success.

We are looking for a part-time (10 hours/week) Accountant/CPA specializing in 501 (c)(3) charitable NGOs. This work can be done remotely.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Oversee the financial operations of the organization and ensure timely and accurate financial reports and practices including cash management, payroll, financial disbursements, ledgers etc.
• Lead work for all relevant filings (e.g. 990s, Form PC, etc.) to the IRS and Attorney General's Office (AGO)
• Overseeing the preparation and maintenance of donor agreements.
• Manage financial control, prepare and analyze budgets, develop financial reports (especially for monthly Board meetings), and make recommendations to the organization on budget expenditures.
• Monitor the expenditures to ensure that program funds are utilized appropriately by the close of the fiscal year.
• Oversee the financial audits (review report, audit) of all projects of the organization.
• Provide financial inputs for proposal development, project management, Human Resource Management policies, logistics, travel and other areas of administration.

TARGET QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proven work experience as a CPA
• Experience with not-for-profit organizations or non-governmental organizations
• Experience managing audits
• Experience dealing with local, state and federal taxes for not-for-profit organizations (Massachusetts, MA is a plus)
• Understanding of transnational transactions and related accounting principles
• Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Experience with accounting software, esp. Quickbooks
• Aligned with our mission to ensure that emerging technologies (especially AI and digital technologies) contribute to the well-being and prosperity of the wider public
