In addition to our satellite locations throughout Eastern Massachusetts, we occupy a 45,000 square-foot clinical center conveniently situated in the Theatre District of Boston. The center is designed to meet the technical and professional needs of a sophisticated clinical, research, and education facility, but is customized for the comfort of the patient. Job Description


The Administrative Director of the New England Eye Center is responsible for the administrative, financial and operational leadership of the Department of Ophthalmology and Pratt Ophthalmology Associates physician group. Manages $24M physician practice budget with 50 providers and 160 employees. Plays a lead role in developing and implementing the annual Tufts MC business plan for the Department of Ophthalmology and the New England Eye Center, including operational and capital budgets, as well as strategic initiatives. This position is responsible for the practice management and administration of efficient operations at the Tufts MC campus and seven satellite locations including but not limited to: Brookline, St. Elizabeth's, Framingham., Leominster, Watertown, Wellesley, & Mt. Auburn.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Under the direction of the Chairman of Ophthalmology, and the Senior Vice President of Operations, collaborates in the development and management of the annual business plan for the New England Eye Center and Pratt Ophthalmology Associates, Inc. (Pratt). Develops strategies to achieve annual and long-term operational goals and expansion of ophthalmology services.
  • Develops and utilizes appropriate statistical and financial performance measures and produces meaningful reports that enable management to make sound operational and strategic decisions. Analyzes business trends and makes recommendations to foster the programs' continued success.
  • Directs daily operations of assigned ophthalmology clinics, programs and professional office settings. Assures compliance with rules and regulations of regulating bodies for licensing, clinical research trials, Joint Commission certification, HIPPA and Corporate
  • Compliance Program. Assures that documentation requirements are met. Communicates with other departmental managers to facilitate efficient operations.
  • Is accountable for developing, implementing and monitoring the Ophthalmology Department budget for Tufts MC and Tufts MCPO Ophthalmology practice budget. Participates in the capital acquisition process for hospital and satellite offices, identifying need for replacement capital and researching new program requirements.
  • Oversees research and clinical trials financials within the Department.
  • Serves as primary contact to managers and staff of all Tufts MC departments which impact or interact with the Department of Ophthalmology. Promotes collaboration and effective integration and utilization of resources to achieve New England Eye Center and Pratt goals.
  • Makes appropriate recommendations for changes in marketing strategies and works collaboratively with Senior Management to promote the New England Eye Center and Pratt. Recommends opportunities for partnership and develops and implements strategic plans that target specific geographic and demographic markets.
  • Follows marketing trends in developing and implementing marketing and/or public relations programs to enhance The New England Eye Center's and Pratt's image within relevant healthcare communities as a provider of choice.
  • Develops and administers programs to create a high level of patient/customer satisfaction.
  • Interviews, hires and supervises department managers and supervisors. Ensures the consistent administration of Tufts MC (Staff), and Tufts MCPO (Professional Staff) Human Resources Programs and Policies.
  • Advocates the mission, philosophy and core values of the New England Eye Center, in concert with the mission of Tufts MC and Tufts MCPO.
  • Maintains a collaborative relationship with peers and colleagues in the department to insure that specified goals are achieved. Consistently fosters a positive work environment and sense of teamwork.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

Qualifications


JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Analytical skills needed to interpret data, develop, implement and evaluate systems, policies, procedures, budget, financial reports, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with varying levels of personnel within and outside Tufts and New England Eye Center.
  • Excellent written communication skills in business communications.

EDUCATION:

  • Level of knowledge generally obtained through a Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Health or related area preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Seven to ten years of progressive management growth in the healthcare industry.
  • Experience in an academic medical center preferred.
  • Strong experience in staff supervision and human resource issues.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
