Organism engineers at Ginkgo learn from nature to develop new organisms that replace technology with biology.As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Finance and Accounting team. Under the direction of an Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for customer billing and overseeing the monthly revenue recognition process for several customer projects at Ginkgo. You will work closely with program managers to maintain all required information and data in the billing system, to ensure timely communication with customers. In addition, you will develop the proper accounting documentation workflow for new contracts, providing a foundational financial structure for new partnerships.ResponsibilitiesAssume ownership of the monthly revenue recognition process for several Ginkgo projects by working closely with Program Managers, confirming monthly project spending under the transfer pricing and government billing programs before invoicing customersWork with the Accounting Manager to determine the monthly revenue recognized under ASC 606 for commercial and products sales revenue contractsManage the revenue and transfer pricing workbooks to ensure billing is accurate and completed in a timely mannerMaintain and review customer balance and accounts receivable aging reports to ensure that payments are applied properly, with thorough understanding of the Debit/Credit conceptPrepare customer account adjustments as required (i.e. credit memos) when billing issues cannot be resolvedEnsure accurate and timely reporting in the billing system and G/LTrack and report bookings of new contracts, and develop and maintain accounting process documentationProvide external audit support on revenue recognition such as responding to auditor inquiries and/or assisting with audit work papersProvide support in the completion of any internal revenue reporting effortProvide backup and assist the Accounting Manager as needed, managing special projects as requiredDesired Experience and Capabilities4-6 years of billing, customer service and/or credit and collections experienceStrong understanding of revenue recognition accountingBachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related fieldExperience with NetSuite and proficiency in Microsoft ExcelAbility to establish multiple priorities and accomplish objectives independently with minimal supervisionExcellent communication and analytical skills, and ability to resolve both new and old issues as they ariseAbility to interface daily with customers, internal departments, and vendors while researching and resolving billing issues and ensuring best practices are in placeTo learn more about Ginkgo, check out some recent press:What is it really like to take your company public via a SPAC?
