We are currently seeking a Staff Accountant to join the team in our Back Bay office. The Staff Accountant will assist in maintaining the general ledger and preparation of financial statements for Brookline Bancorp, Inc. Ensures accounting records are in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Ensure the accuracy of accounting records by performing account analysis, preparation of journal entries and reconciliation of assigned GL accounts.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Preparation and entering of GL Journal Entries into the General Ledger System, along with demonstrating proper documentation
• Ensures strong internal control over GL uploads and journal entries, in addition to performing maintenance.
• Monthly variance analysis review. Review account activity and transactions, and provide in-depth analysis as requested to ensure accuracy of general ledger, which will support accurate and timely financial reporting
• Responsible for all of the accounting associated with fixed assets and prepaids
• Performs ad hoc general ledger analysis and reporting as necessary
• Assist in preparation of internal and external audit requests
• Maintain accounting and reporting policies and procedures
• Assist in preparing regulatory and SEC reporting schedules and providing supporting documentation as requested
• Maintain the Company's income tax provision model, tax account rollforward and LIHTC rollforward with monthly, quarterly or yearly updates as appropriate.
• Preparation of the monthly tax accrual journal entries.
• Liaison with outside tax auditors, preparers or taxing authorities to ensure questions are handled in a timely manner.
• Perform other related duties, as appropriate
Job Specifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting
• Minimum of two years' experience in an Accounting function
• Knowledge of banking functions and operations
• Excellent and Effective communication skills, both written and verbal and proofreading skills
• Knowledge of GL/Account reconciliation software systems
• Strong aptitude with Microsoft office products, specifically Excel and Word and Outlook
• Ability to solve problems
• Ability to accomplish tasks with limited supervision, prioritize and multi-task
• Ability to visualize changes required for specific solutions
• Ability to work quickly, accurately, and independently on a daily basis; requiring strong organizational skills, initiative and good judgement
• Willingness to work overtime during peak periods to ensure reporting deadlines are met
