Job description
Rockland Trust is currently seeking a Senior Collector to join our Retail Collections team. This position is primarily responsible for supporting the default management and loss mitigation efforts of the Consumer & Small Business Collections team. The candidate will perform a variety of activities related to reducing potential losses to the Bank.
Position Responsibilities:
* Works with Customers or agents of Customers to resolve delinquency and avoid default or adverse action.
* Reviews accounts for adherence to department policies as well as state and federal laws and regulations. Corrects any deficiencies with appropriate personnel prior to moving forward in process
* Completes necessary account documentation, involving inside and outside personnel as needed, and recommends accounts to be reviewed for foreclosure, repossession, charge off, and or litigation
* Determines borrower ability to pay, obtain reason for delinquency and offer alternative solutions to resolve delinquency e.g., deferrals, short term repayment plans, as well as formal loss mitigation plans, modifications and liquidation options.
* Manage assigned loan queues at all stages of delinquency through to payoff, repossession/resale, foreclosure, short sale, deed in lieu or charge off in accordance with state and federal regulations and collections procedures.
* May assist in completion of investor delinquency reporting and expense re-imbursement claims in accordance with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac guidelines as assigned
* May assist in processing and resolution of bankruptcy, foreclosure and workout activities for assigned accounts, focusing on home-ownership counseling activities and negotiating workout solutions and ensuring prompt resolution of legal matters
* Ensure the Bank is operating in full compliance with investor, agency/insurer, FHA, VA and private mortgage insurance provider guidelines and results in no monetary losses from non-compliance.
* Develop and present reports to management as needed.
* Keep abreast of all investor guidelines and regulatory changes and applies as applicable. This includes but not limited to CFPB/RESPA, Mass. General Law, FCRA and FDCPA.
Required Skills:
* Effectively demonstrate a professional level of competency in all stages of loss mitigation and foreclosure processes and requirements for all states, while adhering to all state and federal guidelines.
* Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with customers, colleagues and management.
* Exceptional negotiating and problem solving skills
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
* Must be well organized with the ability to set and manage priorities.
* Must be self-motivated and dependable with a willingness to meet defined goals on a consistent basis.
* Demonstrate and promote high ethical standards and behaviors.Good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
Qualifications:
* Associate degree or equivalent experience.
* Minimum 3 years' experience in FHA, VA, USDA, FNMA, FHLMC loss mitigation.
* In-depth knowledge of Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), as well as Fair Lending and Fair Housing Acts and any other related state or federal mortgage loan servicing requirement, including knowledge of related bankruptcy laws.
* Strong knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHLB workout option guidelines
* Residential mortgage underwriting knowledge, i.e. familiarity with debt to income ratios, Loan to values, and calculating monthly income for borrowers.
* Sound knowledge of end-to-end collection/loss mitigation cycle from early detection through default resolution or collateral recovery.
* Solid experience and demonstrated success in controlling losses and maximizing recoveries.
* Demonstrated ability to solve complex issues; strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
* Proficient understanding of state and federal regulations and investor guidelines.
