The Biostatistician joins the Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry at Cambridge Health Alliance, which is a national leader in population mental health delivery. CHA has two nationally recognized research centers with one focused on health equity and disparities research and another focused on mindfulness and compassion in healthcare. The biostatistician aids principal investigators at these centers and in the psychiatry department in methodological and statistical matters. This position will be involved in innovative research involving clinical trials of behavioral health interventions related to mental health, mindfulness, and resilience. The position will involve collaboration with the Center for Mindfulness and Compassion and the Health Equity Research Laboratory. Both have multiple investigators and several large NIH-funded studies, including multi-year center grants with substantial methodological infrastructure from NIMH and another from NC CIH.
Job Duties:
. Perform statistical activities in support of clinical research and real-world evidence generation; including, but is not limited to, protocol and analysis plan development, statistical modeling and data analysis, data visualizations, and preparation of study reports, abstracts, posters, and manuscripts.
. Apply statistical methods to diverse sources of data; including, but not limited to, clinical trials, retrospective and prospective observational studies, large database analyses, registries, and literature. Perform literature review, compile, and present the information.
. Ability to visualize data and analysis results in varying formats and provide figures and tables to principal investigators.
. Consult to cross-functional teams in the development of study databases, data analysis pipelines, and data quality specifications, as needed.
. Exercise independent judgment in selecting and adapting, as necessary, methods appropriate for the specific objective.
. Mentoring trainees and junior investigators in statistical methods and research design and participating in the training of Center staff in methodological matters.
. Supervising data analysts.
. Advising in the development of new proposals and writing grant sections related to power analyses and analytic methods.
. analyzing psychometric properties of scales.
. Professional demeanor with the ability to communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization.
. Perform routine work independently, and with general instructions on new assignments.
. Attend DSMB meetings for clinical trials where they are the biostatistician, and participate as DSMB biostatistician when needed for other department clinical trials.
Qualifications:
. Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Epidemiology, Quantitative psychology, Health Economics, or other quantitative science.
. 5+ years of relevant work experience in industry or academia; including effective programming skills using R, Python, STATA or SAS, and experience in publishing results from clinical, health services, or epidemiologic studies.
. Demonstrated working knowledge of theoretical and applied statistics.
. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
. Experience with clinical trials design and analyses
Preferred Qualifications
. Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Statistics, or Health Economics
. Advanced knowledge of Python, Java, and C++ programming
. Interest in mental health, mindfulness, and health equity
. Experience with quasi-experimental design, pragmatic clinical trial design, econometrics, and machine learning based big data analytics.
