Job description

The Sengupta lab () in the Department of Biology at Brandeis University is looking for a responsible and organized individual to join the lab as a Research Technician/Lab Manager. The lab is a member of both the Molecular Cell Biology and Neuroscience Programs at Brandeis, and uses a range of experimental techniques in the C. elegans experimental system.

The primary responsibilities of the Research Assistant will be to:

  • Manage the lab (50% time). This includes managing our extensive strain collection, ordering supplies, and generally ensuring that the lab is running smoothly.
  • Perform independent or supervised research (50% time). The candidate will carry out a semi-independent research project, and will have the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art techniques and approaches in molecular biology and neuroscience. Many previous assistants have authored papers. Employees can also take up to one course per semester for credit with full tuition remission.

This position is ideal for a candidate seeking to obtain additional research experience prior to entering graduate school in the life sciences. However, we will also consider more experienced candidates. We require a minimum commitment of two years, and a Bachelor's degree in the Life Sciences. Previous research experience (in an undergraduate lab setting or elsewhere) is essential; experience with C. elegans is not necessary. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
