This requires us to deliver on our promises and always look for new opportunities to grow, both ourselves and our business.National Grid is hiring aSenior Analyst, Commercial Developmentfor our Waltham, MA location.Job PurposeIn both New York and New England, the Company's home States have defined their clean energy and environmental ambitions, to broadly achieve the renewable electric generation target of 70% by 2030, and 100% emissions-free electric demand system by 2040, or similar such timeframes. In alignment with these goals, National Grid launched its Responsible Business Charter and Net Zero Plan to support the strategic goal of enabling the energy transition for all. The Clean Energy Development team was formed to pursueemerging infrastructure opportunities and partnerships in order to influence future rate cases and grow rate base for our regulated utilities in New York and New England.The purpose of this role is to support, challenge and drive the strategic and commercial opportunities for the Clean Energy Development organization. The candidate will be responsible for business analytics, commercial support and commercial agreements for new clean energy business opportunities. These include but are not limited to infrastructure for renewable generation, infrastructure in support of EV corridor charging and other transportation, utility scale battery energy storage solutions, low carbon gas and electrification of heat in the New York and New England states, as well as Sandy Pond HVDC in New England.The successful candidate will have a visionary and entrepreneurial mindset. They will be both strategic and tactical, a hands-on and results-driven. leader who will bring credible expertise, exceptional relationship building skills, and fresh new energy to the team. They will possess winning commercial acumen that will generate incremental revenues and lead to growth in clean energy business development activities.Key AccountabilitiesTranslate the commercial development vision into winning business strategies and viable projects in line with growth ambition.Partner with the Clean Energy Business Development Directors, and external partners to pursue emerging infrastructure opportunities and partnerships that are in line with National Grid's strategic business objectives and value requirements.Proactively model and analyze clean energy development opportunities, future technology, asset development strategies and other market opportunities.Propose new operating models for the business, if necessary, to suit the opportunity adding detail as the discrete opportunity progresses.Develop and negotiate the principles of commercial agreements underpinning pursuit of new business.Develop investment papers and business cases to support the progress of new opportunities through company governance.Manage internal and external stakeholders and assure buy-in to propositions.Maintain work records: fact-based reports, feasibility reports, strategy papers, governance papers, stakeholder plans, work plans, risk, action & decision logs and maintain documentation control to assure audit trail and effectiveness of handover as opportunities evolve.Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience RequiredExcellent interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to communicate key messages to internal and external stakeholders.QualificationsA minimum of 3+ years' experience conducting new business development, commercial business or financial partnership activities involving engagement with internal and external stakeholders at a senior level.Experience in the administration, analysis, development or monitoring of wholesale power markets in the northeast US, and regulatory recovery mechanisms for regulated utilities.Significant understanding of technical, commercial, regulator, market and relationship management aspects of business development involving capital investment and issues affecting the utility industry.In-depth knowledge and understanding of the clean energy sector, and large-scale business development involving capital investment.Astute commercial awareness and business modelling, along with a strategic mindset and proactive approach.Ability to generate and win new business ideas or commercial opportunities; develop the opportunities to a defined proposition and lead opportunities through to a mature stage of project.Experience in cost, risk and financial appraisal to support business case development.Must have experience in the development and negotiation of partnering and financing agreements, as well as a successful track record.Strong project management skills as well as strong writing and presentation development skills.Superb ability to negotiate, problem solve and influence key stakeholders resulting in desired outcomes and delivering strong deals for National Grid.Exceptional inter-personal, relationship building and collaboration skills at all levels.Highly motivated self-starter.Confidence in public speaking engagements.A Bachelor's degree, preferably in engineering, finance or business administration or relevant discipline; MBA preferred.More InformationThis position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bandsas you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.Internal candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.National Grid is an equal opportunity employer that values a broad diversity of talent, knowledge, experience and expertise.
