What will you do?
The Senior Credit Manager, Financial Services will be responsible for managing all aspects of the credit and collections activities across the entire Thermo Fisher Financial System (TFFS) function. S/he will be responsible for rendering credit decisions up to $1M after a thorough review of financial statements, credit applications, business plans, equity structures and anything else that is deemed necessary. The goal of this individual will be to support incremental revenue growth across the function while managing our risk profile and minimizing write-offs and delinquency.
* Maintain credit approval rate, greater than industry average - while also minimizing delinquency and write-offs in line with targets established in the annual operating plan.
* Evaluate and decision credit opportunities from new and existing customers in the US, and in some cases EMEA, APAC and Latin America.
* Determine whether a transaction is funded internally or syndicated to one of our outside funding partners. Strengthen existing relationships with existing funding partners.
* Ensure that we maintain a balanced portfolio consisting of a good mix of A/B credits as well as VC/emerging credits.
* Adhere to established credit turn around times and ensure timely and effective communication to both internal and external stakeholders.
* Establish credit approval policy and procedures. S/he will recommend opportunities and propose resolutions for improved efficiency, effectiveness, and/or risk reduction for the department.
* Interprets and applies credit and risk procedures, ensures analysis is documented and that appropriate records are maintained for auditing purposes.
* Work closely with senior financial analyst and TFFS account managers to ensure that delinquencies are addressed timely, payment plans are adhered to and legal/repossession activity occurs in an appropriate manner. Partner with outside legal counsel and 3rd party collection agency when lease defaults occur.
* Understand the secondary market collateral value of both SMF as well as 3P products to help offset potential credit risk in a default scenario.
* Implement a new credit scoring system to generate automated credit approvals for transactions up to $250K.
* Oversee credit approval process in Aspire leasing system.
* Research competitor and industry activity, keeping informed of new products/promotions and ensuring that our programs remain at the forefront of industry trends.
How will you get here?
* MBA preferred
* A four-year undergraduate BA/BS degree is required
* 10+ years of relevant work experience; strong background in credit underwriting
* Experience with commercial finance/leasing and/or a Life Science Company a plus
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
* Proficiency in assessing credit risk/worthiness of companies across multiple industries (biotech, academia, pharma, clinical, industrial)
* Strong financial analysis, negotiation and customer service skills
* Ability to develop policy & procedures related to credit approval process
* Demonstrated ability to operate independently, with initiative, intensity and integrity.
* Team player with ability to integrate across functions (sales, marketing, finance) and build/foster internal relationships.
* Outstanding follow-up and organizational skills, ability to multi-task required.
* Strong presentation, analytical and customer service skills complimented by a solutions-oriented background.
* Strong written/email etiquette along with verbal/phone/communication skills
* Ability to think creatively and to understand the bigger picture from an overall company perspective
* Ability to stay abreast of industry best practices, procedures, and techniques
* Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, high volume department.
* Demonstrated ability to form, maintain and grow senior level customer relationships
* Strong leadership in a matrix/team environment.
* Proficiency with business software including the Microsoft Office suite
* Ability to travel up to 25%
* Global financial experience is a plus, but not required.
