Summary Information and Technology Services (ITS) is looking for an Assistant Director of Finance Systems to join the Enterprise Application System within ITS.
The role will be responsible for managing the delivery of the PeopleSoft Financial applications at the Information Technology and Services organization within the University of Michigan. This position will be responsible for the strategy, customer relationships, resourcing, staff growth and development, and budget. The position will oversee and direct the management team in the following area: setting team performance objectives, strategy, direction and goals; coaching and counseling staff to accomplish goals, and overall responsibility of the Financial Systems area. This is a member of the EAS leadership team.
The ideal candidate has in-depth industry knowledge of the financial and business practices, PeopleSoft, higher education needs, industry, trends, issues and preferably cloud-based ERP systems.

You have at least ten (10) years in information technology at an enterprise level that includes but is not limited to: system design, implementation strategies, process improvement, project management, production support, and systems development methodology.
Responsibilities The incumbent develops the strategic direction for the Financial (FIN) area of Information and Technology Services organization within the University of Michigan. The incumbent represents the group to senior management across University administration and client organizations. In addition, the incumbent:
- Provides leadership and direction for the PeopleSoft Finance (FIN) application.
- Articulates and demonstrates the values and ethics of the organization.
- Provides direction to the managers to develop and deliver a cohesive and consistent strategy.
- Owns responsibility of leading the strategy for staff members and managers.
- Sets expectations for and actively fosters constructive problem solving and collaboration between team members at all levels.
- Collaborates with customer groups across the University and its affiliates to define future solutions.
- Collaborations and works with all ITS teams to help achieve ITS and the university's goals.
- Represents the University and actively engages with industry and higher education to influence the progress of Financial IT.
- The individual will also conduct effective communication with coworkers, teams, business offices, and subject matter experts (SMEs) with guidance from management. Generally completes the duties and responsibilities under the guidance and direction of management.
- Provide leadership representation for the Finance IT area in a variety of capacities, including the governance and prioritization committees and other campus and central office teams as needed.
- Serve as part of the ITS EAS Lead Team and work with ITS EAS Leads and ITS Leadership to advance the ITS EAS Strategic Objectives, as well as the UM IT Strategy.
- Provide department-level financial management and approval
- Manage multiple vendor relationship with operations/engineering staff, account reps, and executives
- Provide day-to-day management of managers that are responsible for operations and ongoing strategy of the Financials IT and daily supervision of their respective teams. Additionally, provide day-to-day management of some staff members.
- Provide leadership representation for Financial Systems and additional support as needed during emergent audits.
- Additional requests/projects as needed from ITS EAS / ITS Leadership.
Define overall roadmap and strategic planning of the training direction for ITS programs and EAS projects. Collaborate across the organizations within ITS and the University of Michigan (U-M) to plan, prioritize, and lead training efforts and develop strategies to meet future requirements.
- Effectively utilize leadership and strategic thinking skills to lead strategic planning efforts to define the strategy of the training direction for the organization with alignment to the organizational training strategy and collaborate across the organization to plan and coordinate program and project team priorities.
- Demonstrate skill development by actively participating in professional growth opportunities for continuous development and improvement and applying new skills/knowledge to the job as evident by the ability to efficiently and effectively perform assigned duties, resulting in meeting customer expectations and performance metrics.
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or equivalent combination of education, certification and experience.
- 10 years relevant work experience in information technology at an enterprise level that includes but is not limited to: system design, implementation strategies, process improvement, project management, production support, and systems development methodology.
- 5 years' experience in a management position to include responsibility for strategic planning, customer relationship management, project management, goal setting, resource planning and scheduling, and supervisory experience that includes recruiting, mentoring, career development and performance management, leadership, and/or team building.
- Experience managing multiple, cross-functional teams and influencing senior level management and key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge in the assigned IT functions as well as broad knowledge in other disciplines/technologies/processes that interact with the assigned functions.
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues involved with software and application development, architecture, and methodology.
- Strong understanding and experience with process management, change and configuration management, release management, and software development lifecycle (agile or iterative).
- Demonstrated proficiency with current computer technology and applications (e.g. productivity apps, Google apps, etc.)
- Ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.
- Demonstrated effective creative problem solving and flexibility when collaborating with customers, team members support teams, external vendors, and technical organizations to understand, advocate for, evaluate, and support enhancements, resulting in plans and services that leverage the capabilities of existing technology and meet customer and organizational expectations.
