Job description
We are a Michigan-based cannabis extraction and purification facility seeking an Extraction Assistant for the extraction and production of marijuana extracted products and distillate for both the medicinal and recreational cannabis markets.
The Extraction Assistant carries out day-to-day tasks including prepping, assist in extracting, cleaning, and maintaining a safe working environment, adhering to GMP standards. The Extraction Assistant will assist the Extraction Technician and Lead Chemist to create and perfect processes and products for marijuana concentrates and distillate in accordance with state and local laws as well as Green Sprout Labs standards.
Core Duties
- Extraction and Related Processes [90%]
- Assist in performing extractions on various types of cannabis biomass.
- Packaging biomass
- Following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), provide input for SOPs as needed.
- Inputting data into internal batch data logs and tracking data and movement of marijuana per regulations of state METRC system.
- Maintaining and cleaning extraction equipment.
- Reporting to manager any issues or damages to equipment and/or supplies.
- Performing preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment.
- Manipulate, prepare, and package concentrates (waxes, budders, crystals, shatter, live resin) as needed.
- Changing solvents and maneuvering in-process material.
- Maintaining cleanliness of all aspects of the extraction lab and related areas (cleaning walls, surfaces, floors, etc.).
- Maintaining appropriate supplies levels required for the extraction process including equipment, solvents, tools, and any other material that is required for an extraction or cleaning process.
- PPE is required (masks, hair nets, shoe covers and lab coats) when in the extraction lab and surrounding areas.
- Lifting of 50+ lbs. and standing for long periods of time.
- Quality Management [10%]
- Assist with the creation and maintenance of batch production logs, METRC labeling, test results and QC retain samples.
- Demonstrate an understanding of federal, state, and county safety requirements for hazardous chemical handling and food production facilities. Handle preparation for periodic inspections.
- Ensure personal hygiene of self and others is acceptable under company and legal standards before performing any production activities by washing hands, wearing a hair net, changing clothes, etc.
- Operating within and contributing to a quality management system (QMS).
Required Experience, Education, and Skills
- Minimum requirement is high school diploma or GED.
- Must pass a criminal background check. A pending charge or conviction within the past 10 years for a controlled substance-related felony may invalidate hiring eligibility unless written permission is given by the licensing agency.
- Food Handler Certification required.
- Mechanical aptitude to understand extraction equipment and processes.
- Strong and effective task-management skills, high attention to detail, and ability to multi-task.
- Sense of curiosity and initiative to improve processes.
- Ability to stand for at least 6 hours per day and lift up to 50 pounds to torso level is necessary.
- Must be 21+ years of age.
Desired Experience, Education, and Skills
- Preferred candidate will have BS in Chemistry or related field and/or equivalent work experience.
- 2-3 years' experience in a lab that adheres to strict health and safety policies. Preferably a regulated field producing products for human consumption.
- Previous marijuana industry experience preferred with priority given to candidates with experience in licensed facilities.
- Applicants should have a strong desire to develop into a subject matter expert (SME) on the processing and infusion of cannabis-derived materials.
- Ability to use standard office equipment, basic computer skills.
- Proven track record of good attendance and punctuality.
