POSITION SUMMARY

The Camp Store Specialist is responsible for overseeing and facilitating all aspects of the Camp Store. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: selling camp store items to all campers, groups, cabins, and staff that visit the camp store, accept and refund store account money on opening and closing days of camp, tracking stock and inventory and communicating when store items are low on inventory, maintaining a neat and clean environment in the store. This position also has oversite of camper lost and found. Onsite housing is optional. Schedule: Monday - Friday. Must be at least 18 years of age.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Facilitate every aspect of running, inventory, and maintenance of the camp store program.
  • Make transactions for camp store items with campers, cabins, groups, and staff
  • Supervise staffing helping in the camp store
  • Ensure camp store is stocked and prepped daily
  • Keep record of campers/staff store account balance with camp system
  • Make accurate refunds on closing days of camp
  • Find and return lost and found items to campers/families as requested
  • Keep lost and found cleaned and logged as needed
  • Assume the role and duties of a counselor as determined by the Summer Camp Director, which could include staying in a cabin with campers or leading a trail group.

Performs any other functions deemed to be necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Association


COMPENSATION

  • Onsite housing is optional, and would include meals Sunday - Friday. If living on site, this position should expect to serve as evening coverage in Overnight Camp cabins. Staff who live on site are allowed to remain on site during the weekends throughout their seasonal employment if they choose. Scheduled time off will be granted each day.
  • $50.00 - $55.00 per day; Seasonal; Non-Exempt
  • Free individual YMCA membership
. Requirements:

KNOW HOW

  • At least 18 years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent
  • Previous experiences in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide basic currency
  • Basic computer and cash register skills and knowledge
  • Organizational skills to plan, schedule, and facilitate programs
  • Ability to give supervision and guidance to staff
  • Ability to plan, lead and/or assist in teaching an activity
  • Ability to teach leadership skills
  • Ability to teach and role model the Core Values of the YMCA and use of 21st century life skills

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Cardio Pulmonary Recitation (CPR) for rescue required
  • First Aid certification required
  • Blood borne pathogens training required upon hire
  • State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
