Job Description:
The Product Development Manager will be a key part of the product management team that is responsible for identifying market opportunities, creating a pipeline of new ideas, defining innovative products and driving new product development plans. As a manager in L3Harris' Strategy and Product Development Group, this role provides the opportunity to interact with the Commercial Aviation Sector (CAS) Leadership Team and other top leaders in the company as you will be a key team member in the development and implementation of the global strategic direction and product portfolio roadmaps. You will own and champion the product portfolio roadmaps from new product creation through product execution
Business Development & Product Manager will collaborate and provide support to rest of Product Managers on the team in a matrix organization.
Essential Functions:
- Market knowledge and direction
- Ensure in-depth knowledge of the product (all countries and customers). This includes having a clear understanding of customers' needs, the competitive environment (including current and future products), evolutions in respect of airplane, training methodologies, technology, supply chain, etc.
- Managing the product policy - provide product leadership within the business
- Defining the Product policy
Define the product roadmaps and key success factors (offer differentiators, time to market, target costs, market access, strategy in terms of supply chain, standards, exportability, etc.)
Develop internal investment plans to support the roadmaps
Develop supporting business cases to launch new product lines and derivates in support of the product roadmaps
Manage the product portfolio, specifically the overall consistency of the delivered product across multiple applications / customers
- Ensuring that the product policy is implemented
Ensure that product development actions are compliant with the product policy defined (investments, specifications, costs, schedule, etc.)
Ensure that the bid teams take full account of the product policies to ensure consistency with product roadmaps
New product introduction into the business
Responsible for ensuring new products are reviewed and authorized for use by the relevant safety expert
- Managing and resolving product issues through whole life cycle
Technical interface for Supply Chain activities
Technical interface to customer support on product issues
- Supporting, managing and continually improving the Product / Platform Change Management Process
Supporting Sales
- Develop Go-To-Market packages in support of new program launches. Includes competitive analytics, value propositions and price to win analysis
- Developing the key product messages to be communicated to the market and, where applicable, support the launch of new products and services
- Ensuring promotion of product or product line:
Develop sales arguments by market-product pair, including the relevant elements in the market and comparison with competitors' offers
Develop the related promotion actions and tools (e.g. sales brochures, white papers, PowerPoint or multimedia presentations, product demonstrations, participate in customer events) in line with the general guidelines issued by the Communication Department
- Assisting the sales teams with sales actions:
Support the sales teams in their dealings with customers and, where applicable, the OEM airplane and avionics manufacturers.
Present the sales arguments and promotion material that may be used for the product line
Participate in the capture and bid process key decisions (Bid/No-Bid, Key Project Review, etc.)
Supporting the preparation of the bid proposal response to a Customer Request for Proposal to win business
Review of customer requirements and identify customer specific requests
Identify / develop solutions that best meets the Customer's needs at the least cost (competitive bids)
Obtain cost estimates to meet requested product specification
Generate customer documentation to specify the product and services deliverables
Customer Excellence
- Support Product technical expert in the generation of Spares lists for each baseline
- Develop strategies and subsequent product offerings that counter obsolescence or performance challenges with current and legacy devices
- Provide direction and support to assist with Technical Queries, Repairs, etc. that are raised by either the business or customers
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in technical or business discipline.
- More than 9 years related engineering, training or other related experience in airline training. A significant amount of experience and product knowledge is preferred in the airline training industry
- Customer management skills
- Strategic vision to develop product roadmaps and solutions to meet future customer and business requirements.
- Good understanding of current trends in training related products, engineering (particularly systems) development techniques and technology.
- Will have demonstrated a high degree of technical expertise, problem solving skills, innovation and commitment in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Strategic vision to develop product roadmaps and solutions to meet future customer and business requirements
- Excellent communication skills required to be able to convey ideas and influence decisions at all levels of the business internally and to external customer organizations.
- Ability to generate captivating technical presentations for external customers, tailored to the target audience
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
