Job description
Assistant, Associate or Professor of History William Jewell College seeks to appoint a Chair of the
Department of History at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate
Professor or Professor. Successful candidates will provide evidence
of effective leadership and administrative skills, excellence in
teaching, a strong record of research and publications, and the
desire to integrate fully into the life of the college. The
expertise of the candidates is open, though the College has
interest in someone with experience in teaching U.S. or European
history along with a secondary specialization in world history
and/or transnational history.
This is a full-time, tenure-track position beginning August
2022, with rank depending on qualifications. A doctorate in History
is required. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong
commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentorship; student
involvement in research; student advising; the ability to teach a
range of undergraduate history courses; program development (course
and curriculum development, assessment); building community
partnerships; and the desire to integrate fully in a critical
thinking college.
Qualifications:
D. in History is required
Ability to lead and develop an academic department
Ability to teach across the undergraduate history curriculum,
including courses in their areas of expertise, survey courses, as
needed by the department, in U.S. or European history as well as
world history
Ability to engage undergraduate students in research and
scholarly activity
Ability to develop curriculum and assessment tools
Willingness to teach interdisciplinary courses as part of the
College's interdisciplinary core curriculum (Critical Thought and
Inquiry program)
Willingness to serve as coordinator of the Oxbridge History
program
Willingness to assume a variety of responsibilities in a small
department
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching up to 24 contact hours per year (ie, three 4-credit
courses per semester)
Curriculum and assessment development
Develop a program of scholarly activity with
undergraduates
Service to the College and community including academic
advising and involvement in College and departmental committees and
activities

Undergraduate and Graduate Transcripts (copies are acceptable
until finalists are selected)
Three letters of recommendation will be requested for
finalists
