Patient Financial Counselor Job Description New Season Reports to: Program Director Job Code: TC44 Department: Clinic FLSA: Non-Exempt Direct Reports: 0 For over 30 years, New Season Treatment Centers have been a leading national health care service provider of outpatient treatment centers that specialize in providing safe, quality and best in class care for individuals living with Opioid Use Disorder ("OUD"). Operating in over 70 treatment centers in multiple states, our team members are engaged in medication-assisted treatment, counseling, support, and care management of individuals living with OUD. We treat the whole person and, in so doing, address the underlying causes of OUD in an effort to provide a continuum of care that not only addresses treatment needs but supports the patient on their journey to recovery.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for advising and assisting patients regarding medical bills, they are considered the liaisons between patients and their insurance companies; often coordinating payments and answering questions. The ideal candidate assists in handling financial obligations so patients and physicians can focus on healthcare.

Essential Functions:

Communicate with patients and insurance companies via phone. Work closely with Case Management on a daily basis in regard to patient status; this will include the patient type and insurance coverage. Set up/ arrange installment plans for patients to payoff balances within CMG/ New Season guidelines. This will also require a follow-up on payments that were missed. Discuss outstanding balances with patients attempting to receive future services. Create detailed notes in the system to reflect all actions performed on the account. Submit bad debt collection files on a monthly basis. Maintain complete records of all patients that include financial assistance application, proof of income, the acceptance/denial letter, and any other applicable documentation. Educate patients about payment options and financial assistance. Review and process patient and insurance company forms. Maintains confidentiality and safeguards the operations of the business. Keep lines of communication open with the Clinic Operations Team to ensure individualized goals are met. Adheres to the service policy and principle of CMG/New Seasons. Other duties assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: (This position will supervise non-exempt staff in support roles performing duties described in "Essential Functions".) Education/Licensure/Certification: The candidate will have a High School Diploma or GED. Required Knowledge: The candidate will have knowledge of healthcare terminology. Basic computer knowledge. Knowledge of medical insurances (Medicare, HMO's, PPO's, commercial, hospital billing, and collection process. Banking, accounting, and math principles. Experience Required: The candidate must have a minimum of three (3) years of previous registration, billing and collections, and financial counseling experience. Strong customer/ patient service background. Skill and Ability: The position will require proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, Google Business Suite applications, and the internet. Ability to use logic in determining documents, reading, and following written and oral instructions. Good people skills for building relationships with colleagues at all levels. Good written skills. Must have good organizational and computer skills. Ability to be detailed oriented.
