About This Job

An excellent opportunity is currently available in our Retail Administration Department at Commerce Bank. As the banking industry landscape continues to evolve, Commerce Bank is expanding its Strategic Programs and Business Transformation team to manage and guide these changes. This team will help successfully achieve goals and objectives by providing strategic plan development, execution oversight and direct management of key strategic initiatives.

The team is currently seeking a strategic and results-focused individual to lead the Retail market growth strategy. This position will be responsible for identifying, developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies to achieve Retail growth - both in existing markets and/or expanding into new markets. They will lead and direct all activities necessary to evaluate growth opportunities, recommend approaches to capture growth, collaborate with leadership in the field, oversee implementation, and monitor key performance results to achieve those goals. The ability to make sound business decisions and develop strategies which drive toward Commerce Bank's overall objectives will be integral to success in this role.

Essential Functions

  • Create and implement strategic projects, utilizing various internal and external resources, to support the development and execution of select key programs that significantly impact the Core Retail unit's business strategy. These programs may include: physical and digital distribution initiatives; expansion into new segments/markets; leveraging digital channel and marketing to drive growth; resource reallocation plans to support growth targets; and collaborating with other business lines within Commerce to develop and execute programs to grow the Retail business

  • Manage day-to-day program activities while controlling scope and timeline variables to minimize risk

  • Leverage resources across projects, motivating team members to work together and maintain a big picture view of the overall project portfolio to apply lessons learned in various scenarios

  • Research and leverage best practices for building and supporting effective teams from within Commerce and externally

  • Partner with market leadership, marketing, analytics, financial planning, and real estate/construction teams to identify opportunities to optimize the physical network

  • Work effectively to align the market growth strategies and initiatives across other change management initiatives

  • Support planning functions associated with the Retail unit

  • Serve as the subject matter expert within the business line and within the projects they manage

  • Escalate issues that arise across multiple sectors

  • Maintain an understanding of initiatives within the strategic plan and how they relate to the overall vision and Transformation business model

  • Define, develop and implement strategic priorities for market growth

  • Direct analytical research of market opportunities, economics, and consumer issues related to Retail growth

  • Develop program specifications including objectives, scope, budgets, timelines, etc. to support decision recommendations

  • Identify cost-saving methods/projects to repurpose investments towards growth strategies - both within markets and across the network

  • Partner with Market leadership and other business units to identify and achieve project objectives

  • Track, monitor, and report on key implementation milestones to ensure ability to successfully deliver on metrics and course correct as needed

  • Work with business unit leaders and market managers to increase awareness and knowledge required to make informed decisions and maximize opportunities

  • Build a deep understanding and awareness of key strategies, initiatives and opportunities

  • Keep abreast of industry publications and possible upcoming changes that could impact business

Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Business Management or related field

  • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in strategic planning, program leadership, or relationship management efforts
