In 2022, MHA-EM will be implementing an agency-wide commitment to addressing trauma, toxic stress, and the impact of early adversity on adult mental health. This new initiative called PEACE (Preventing the Effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences) will have two key components; a new clinical program for children, youth, and young adults as well as community-wide education and advocacy aimed at preventing ACEs by addressing social determinants of health that are root causes of mental health conditions.

Position Summary:

The Vice-President of Development is responsible for development and implementation of a comprehensive donor-relations program to support annual operating needs and capital needs, as well as new and on-going program needs of the organization.This includes designing and managing the data, communications strategies and donor cultivation activities that support the organization's needs.

The VP is part of the senior management team that drives the overall strategy for the organization, provides program leadership and management along with knowledge management.This position will be instrumental in engaging the Board of Directors and Committees, the President & CEO, and the senior management team in the creation and implementation of a long-term fund development strategy that will sustain and strengthen all fundraising and development needs for the organization.

The VP will help build new relationships to strengthen and enhance the organization's visibility, impact, and financial resources. They will lead and manage the philanthropy strategy for the entire organization to rigorously engage new foundations, corporations, and individual donors, growing resources and securing funders to provide a deep investment in program expansion, as well as policy and evaluation efforts.


Essential Functions:

  • Directs the planning, organization, and implementation of:
    • Annual giving
    • Grants - both private, Corporate and Federal
    • Major donors
    • Special events
    • Planned Giving
  • Incorporates the mission and vision into all development and communication activities.
  • Creates and implements major and planned giving programs to ensure on-going cultivation and solicitation activities.
  • Creates and implement a Moves Management program
  • Develop and manage an integrated donor relations program that strategically targets all levels of giving
  • Directs and oversees MHA-EM's donor database integrity and analysis
  • Implement a gift acknowledgement program that uses best practices and thank donors in a manner appropriate to the gift, ensuring they are timely, meaningful and documented in the donor's record.
  • Establish and implement a calendar of fund raising, grant submission and communication activities.
  • Implement a newly created branding strategy and design & implement an annual Communications plan to enhance organizational image, promote the mission and programs and encourage community support
  • Oversee all agency public relations and marketing needs including, website, annual report, newsletters, brochures, press releases and other materials.
  • Identify prospective donors for both annual and major gifts throughout the local community.
  • Maintain relationships with a portfolio of major donors, cultivating them toward meaningful support of MHA-EM.
  • Developing and tracking proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising
  • Oversee Advancement Committee of the Board of Directors and attend board meetings.
  • Develop and administer the annual budget for the advancement efforts.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategic plans.
  • Work with assigned Board and Committee members
  • Support the President & CEO's advocacy work and provide appropriate corresponding public relations assistance through press conferences, press releases, media alerts, rallies, public meeting and placing stories in media.


Knowledge Management:

  • Develops the necessary systems, processes, and tools to better support the facilitation, collection, and sharing of knowledge that is generated by the Development department

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree and CFRE certification
  • 10 years of experience in the development and implementation of comprehensive fund development strategies in the not-for-profit sector. At least 7 years supervisory experience, with a proven track record of successful management and retention of employees and experience establishing goals and metrics to evaluate strategies and team effectiveness.
  • Ability to design, implement and maintain a comprehensive, integrated development and communications program
  • Knowledge of and experience with Fundraising and Planned Giving software. Knowledge of Salesforce a plus. Proficiency in as well as Tessitura, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to embrace new technology.
  • Strong management skills with a successful track record in attracting and retaining top talent and building a solid team
  • Skilled communicator both in writing and verbally
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize workload
  • Knowledge of trauma, toxic stress and social determinants of mental health is preferred.
