Job description
Christensen Farms is one of the largest, family-owned pork producers in the United States, marketing approximately 3 million hogs per year. Headquartered in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, the company operates throughout the Midwest with facilities in Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois and South Dakota. Christensen Farms owns three feed mills, manages 145,000 sows on 44 farms, and oversees more than 350 nurseries and grow-finish sites. The company employees nearly 1,000 people and maintains 1,500 contract partnerships.
The company is vertically integrated with a strong presence across the pork value chain from farm to fork. Christensen Farms is the largest shareholder of Triumph Foods LLC, a producer-owned primary pork processing plant in St. Joseph, Missouri. In turn, Triumph Food members own 50 percent of Daily's Premium Meats, a specialty pork processor bacon and other premium pork products. Triumph Foods also holds a 50 percent partnership in Seaboard Triumph Foods, LLC of Sioux City, Iowa, a primary pork processing plant.
The Bi-lingual HR Generalist will provide HR support across several disciplines including: Talent Acquisition, Employee Relations, Employee Engagement, Leave Administration, Workers Compensation, Training, Orientation and Onboarding. This role partners with business stakeholders to drive organizational results through people processes and management practices. This position plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with federal, state and company policies in our people processes.
Major Areas of Accountability:
Employee Relations
- Provide employee relations support for managers and employee's at field locations
- Advises on disciplinary actions including termination decisions to ensure appropriate processes are followed, and to minimize risk.
- Respond to employee relation issues such as employee complaints or conduct employee work place investigations and provide recommendations on appropriate resolutions.
- Weekly update of employee relations activity at field locations.
- Partners with managers throughout the organization on Employee Engagement and recognition best practices.
- Handle all unemployment claims including unemployment hearings.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of federal and state employment law and compliance requirements.
- Supports employees and managers through leave of absence.
- Evaluates and recommends updates to leave processes based on company needs as well as revisions to federal and state employment law.
- Ensures employee records are updated and maintained to reflect leaves.
- Provides support and backup to the Work Comp Admin.
- Participate in Safety team initiatives to improve injury rate and worker compensation spend.
- Provides recommendations to the HR Leadership team and Regional/Department Leaders to improve management understanding of procedures, responsibilities or strategies within job scope.
- Conduct HR process training to include training on Reasonable Suspicion, Discipline Process, Internal Investigation Process and how to effectively manage W/C cases.
- Responsible for partnering with managers to identify talent needs and recruiting for an assigned department.
- Participate in college career fairs.
- Developing strategies that attract talent into the organization
- Responsible ensuring new team members receive the appropriate orientation and onboarding to the organization within the specified region
- Partner with managers and leaders to build a welcoming environment
- Assist in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures. Prepare and maintain employee handbook and policies.
- Participate in initiatives related to retention and onboarding work.
- Provide guidance to managers and ensure that all company job descriptions are up to date and accurate.
- Lead HR projects as assigned.
- Monitor employee morale and company culture.
- Collaborate with other members of the HR Team to assist in the development of HR strategies.
- Assist in the maintenance of employee personnel records.
- Facilitate all International Professionals with their immigration paperwork, maintain status and ensure all renews are completed timely.
- The ideal candidate will be bilingual in Spanish and English
- The ideal candidate with have a 4-year degree in Human Resources Management or related field or equivalent experience; minimum of 3-5 years Human Resource experience in various areas of the HR function .
- HR Certification (PHR or SHRM-CP) preferred.
- This candidate will have thorough knowledge of state and employment regulations, employment law, EEO, and ADA guidelines and requirements.
- Must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to travel overnight.
- Ability to utilize independent judgment to effectively manage time-sensitive situations with the ability to escalate high pressure/risk situations.
- Must have the appropriate level of assertiveness in order to have influence on the various parties (managers, claim handlers) to reach the best outcome as it pertains to organizational risk.
- Must possess exceptional organizational skills to ensure appropriate and timely follow up through on all situations.
