JOB OVERVIEW

The Child Care Assistant carries out a daily schedule of activities for an assigned group of children. Maintains a safe and orderly environment; communicates children’s activities and behavior to parents as appropriate. Work will be performed in an ethical and legal manner following organizational policies, processes, protocols and procedures. Responsible for quality service delivery and internal/external customer relations for Madonna as a whole, including upholding the mission and values for the department and facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

(INFORMATION)

  1. Obtains educational materials required to implement the daily activity.
  2. Maintains confidentiality of records and work information.
  3. Adheres to facility and departmental policies and procedures in responding to routine and non-routine work demands.
  4. Knowledge of developmentally appropriate teaching methods and practices to provide for activities for and interactions with assigned children.
  5. Knowledge of appropriate childcare practices.
(PEOPLE)
  1. Provides for the basic care of assigned children.
  2. Maintains a safe and orderly environment for children.
  3. Observes and relays significant individual and group behavior to appropriate personnel.
  4. Communicates the daily activities of children to parents.
  5. Conducts daily activities for children as assigned.
  6. Attends staff meetings and development programs as required; participates in in-services and continuing education as required by state law.
  7. Communicates effectively (written, verbal and in all aspects) with facility personnel, coworkers, and parents.
  8. Assists with oversight of volunteers’ activities and assignments; provides support and direction when needed.
  9. Ability to react appropriately under stress and emergency situations.
  10. Ability to recognize and relay significant individual and group behavior.
  11. Must follow written and verbal directions as given by parents, teachers, or supervisors.
  12. Follows instruction from supervisor to perform other functions as assigned in order to achieve the goals within the department and/or system.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Must have constant near visual acuity with ordinary hearing and speaking skills. Must be able to occasionally lift 50 pounds with frequent lift and carry of 35 pounds. Must tolerate frequent sitting and standing throughout the work shift. Requires frequent bending and stooping. Must tolerate occasional to frequent horizontal reaching with both arms. Frequent grasping of both hands requiring normal grip strength based on national averages. May be exposed to biohazardous materials and body fluids.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalency required. Any combination of training and experience that will allow the incumbent to perform stated work requirements. Incumbent must be 18 years of age or older. Must have valid Nebraska driver’s license and proof of good driving record. CPR for Health Care Provider/CPR for Professional Rescuer and first aid required. Must complete all in-service hours required by the State of NE; by November of the current year.
