Breakwater Treatment & Wellness is New Jersey's most trusted source for medical cannabis. We grow, produce, and dispense the highest quality cannabis and cannabis products in the New Jersey Medical Marijuana Program. To that end, we are seeking a Human Resources Associate to help build and run our new HR department. This person will help keep Breakwater an amazing place to work and handle a wide variety of areas related to our talented workforce. This person will help run core HR functions like: managing talent pipelines, conducting and coordinating interviews, onboarding / offboarding employees, overseeing benefits administration, and ensuring organized and compliant records. In addition, we would like for this person to assist with special HR projects such as: developing a company-wide training and development program, creating and coordinating company events for employees, and partnering with managers to resolve personnel issues and outline career paths for their direct reports. The right candidate for this role should have 2-5 years of experience in an HR role and/or be a recent graduate with a passion for HR. They should be organized and have a mind for the important details that are prevalent in the world of HR. We are also looking for someone who is people focused that can coach and guide employees in line with our company values.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Partner with managers to understand their teams' talent needs and overseeing recruiting pipelines (Indeed, LinkedIn, college campuses) to source the best candidates
- Own the onboarding and offboarding process for new and departing employees including: state compliance, orientation, medical benefits, exit interviews
- Act as a go to resource for managers and employees regarding benefits and company policies
- Maintain compliant and well organized personnel files and company records, both electronic and physical
- Become an expert in various HR technology systems (Wurk, Deputy, Kantola, LinkedIn Learning) and assist in administering those platforms so that managers get value from them and know how to use them effectively
- Understand and uphold company vision: be able to relay salient details to managers and employees to ensure consistent and quality communication across the organization
- Assist in the development and execution of employee focused events such as summer party, team building, and philanthropy events
- Help build and oversee training and development programs for company employees
Requirements
Skills & Experience:
- 2-5 years of experience in a Human Resources role and / or a degree in a HR related field
- Familiarity with administrative work such as setting up and terminating benefits for employees, tracking data and statuses related to different employee matters,
- Ability to communicate policies, procedures, and nuances of employment matters to managers and employees
- High EQ with the ability to listen, coach, and influence others
- Must possess empathy and discretion, be willing to listen, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive employment related matters
- Proven track record solving interpersonal issues in line with company culture and policies
- Comfort with conflict and ability to remain calm and level-headed in tense or uncomfortable situations
- Possess an "respond, don't react" mindset and work to get the right answer, not simply give the one you have
- Willing to roll up sleeves and be a team player in various unplanned/unexpected situations that might arise on a daily basis
- Must be able to coordinate and collaborate effectively with multiple departments and different stakeholders
- Comfort and familiarity using excel or similar applications to gain insights into data
- Ability to juggle multiple competing priorities, effectively separate big from small, and make high-quality decisions independently (and seek advice when necessary)
- Comfort with ambiguity and able to evolve and grow in an ever-changing landscape
- Flexible schedule with ability to work 40 hours per week
