Job Description
When it comes to evaluating a Mergers and Acquisitions opportunity, Verisk's Corporate Development team plays a critical role in providing the tool kit for making sound business decisions. As Financial Analyst you will work in close partnership with Senior Leadership, Legal, as well as Finance, Accounting and Tax teams to evaluate and execute M&A acquisitions and investments. The ideal candidate will provide the financial analysis, forecasting and modeling to help decision-makers assess the strengths and risks involved in a given acquisition opportunity. As part of this team, you will build strong modeling and valuation skills and the ability to navigate complex financial issues. The successful candidate will be willing to dive deep into the details while keeping an eye on the bigger picture.
This position is based in our Jersey City, NJ office, conveniently located across the street from the Newport path station. Just one stop from Christopher Street, we're an easy 10-minute commute from lower Manhattan (and about 20 minutes from Brooklyn).
The Day To Day Expectations Of This Role Are
- Corporate development and M&A, including due diligence, financial modeling, valuation and performance tracking.
- Manage most of the financial aspects of acquisitions, from early stage valuation assessment, initial Letter of Intent (LOI) phase through financial due diligence.
- Performance assessment, business reviews, margin analysis, capital expenditure analysis.
- Deal process management, coordinating with business unit and corporate function colleagues and communicating with sellside.
- Market valuation, peer performance, investor support, earnings and investor presentations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with preferred major in Finance, Accounting or Economics.
- 2-3 years of investment banking, private equity or corporate M&A (specifically buy side) experience required.
- Must have strong modeling experience; Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) analysis experience is required.
- Solid understanding of financial statements and GAAP accounting preferred.
- Effective project management skills, including demonstrated ability to think end-to-end, manage long-term projects, and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a timely manner with externally driven deadlines that may shift during the course of a project.
- Demonstrated planning, analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to understand and develop new business and financial models quickly with less than full information.
- Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills, superb attention to detail, and a high level of curiosity.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of time as needed.
- Performs well under pressure within team and individual setting.
