To support our continued growth Tris is expanding the Accounting team at our Monmouth Junction, NJ facility and has an opening for an Assistant Controller.
The Assistant Controller - reporting directly to, and collaborating closely with, the Controller - is responsible for managing assigned accounting functions including, but not limited to: day-to-day transactional accounting, revenue accounting, financial audits, technical accounting, quarterly financial reporting requirements, etc. The incumbent plays a proactive role in establishing, directing and maintaining accurate and ethical accounting principles, practices, and procedures in order to establish and maintain sound financial controls. She/he also assists in setting strategic and operational direction for the accounting department, supervising staff in Controller's absence and aligning department goals to help support business development and achieve company objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Ensures all revenue accounting procedures and activities are followed in accordance, and in compliance, with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); Oversees and supports daily accounting activities including, but not limited to: general ledger, procurement, accounts payable/receivable, sales reserve analysis, cash management, fixed assets and financial reporting and filings, etc.; Directs accounting activities to timely and accurately record transactions in the general ledger
• Manages general ledger and preparation of the consolidated financial statements; Contributes to, and supports, assigned aspects of the company's financial reporting requirements to ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial statements, reports and disclosures including but not limited to: quarterly and year-end tax filings and financial statements, risk management, treasury, variance analytics, etc.; Identifies, addresses and rectifies technical accounting issues, requiring high accounting acumen, arising from business transactions
• Assists with technical accounting and research; Documents company's accounting treatment of business transactions in an accurate and timely manner
• Provides guidance on new accounting pronouncements, as needed; Assists in the generation and advancement of assigned process improvements, internal controls and optimization of business processes that impact the company and support future growth
• Acts as the liaison between the company and the third-party auditors and tax consultants; Collaborate closely with external auditors to guide the audit process
• Collaborates closely with cross functional teams to ensure financial policies/processes and process improvements/optimization are understood and supported across company to ensure scalability of our operations to support future growth
• Supervises, coaches and mentors Accounting staff
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED
• Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting or related discipline AND minimum 8 years related experience in roles of increasing technical and strategic responsibility REQUIRED
• Excellent, hands -on knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting/filing etc.) REQUIRED
• Excellent, hands-on knowledge of GAAP rules and regulations REQUIRED
• Experience working directly with external auditors and/or tax consultants REQUIRED
• Working knowledge and understanding of revenue recognition accounting REQUIRED
• Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems REQUIRED
• Ability to influence without direct authority REQUIRED
