SUMMARY

Establishes and promotes the maintenance of a safe, accident free and healthy work environment by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Manages employee benefit programs for organization by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Plans, coordinates, and directs personnel training and staff development programs for organization by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Plans and directs implementation and administration of benefits programs designed to insure employees against loss of income due to illness, injury, layoff, or retirement.

Makes studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.

Formulates general safety policies and procedures to be followed by company or plant personnel in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.

Consults legal counsel to ensure that policies comply with federal and state law.

Oversees the analysis, maintenance, and communication of records required by law or local governing bodies, or other departments in the organization.

Studies legislation, arbitration decisions, and collective bargaining contracts.

Writes directives advising department managers of company policy regarding equal employment opportunities, compensation, and employee benefits.

Consults legal counsel to ensure that policies comply with federal and state law.

Directs preparation and distribution of written and verbal information to inform employees of benefits programs such as insurance plans, pension plans, paid time off.

Analyzes existing benefits policies of organization, and prevailing practices among similar organizations, to establish competitive benefits programs.

Evaluates services, coverage, and options available through insurance and investment companies to determine programs best meeting needs of organization.

Recommends modification of existing benefits programs.

Recommends benefit plan changes to management.

Notifies employees and labor union representatives of changes in benefits programs.

Directs performance of clerical functions such as updating records and processing insurance claims.

Confers with managers and supervisors to determine training needs.

Compiles data and analyzes past and current year training requirements to prepare budgets and justify funds requested.

Formulates training policies, programs, and schedules, based on knowledge of identified training needs, company production processes, business systems, or changes in products, procedures, or services.

Selects appropriate instructional procedures or methods such as individual training, group instruction, self-study, lectures, demonstrations, simulation exercises, role play, and computer based training.

Consults with all departments on design and use of equipment, shops, fire prevention and safety program.

Inspects or tours organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, and recommends corrective or preventative measures where indicated.

Keeps managers and employees alerted as to the hazards of working with toxic fumes, dangerous chemicals, and any other hazardous substances.

Participates in the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, law suits, and insurance investigations.

Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies.

Oversees the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to cut down on lost employee time and cut back on unjust claims.

Devises, supervises, and coordinates training programs or media which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness.

Prepares and arranges safety exhibits and material for display, promotional work, industry conferences and exhibitions.

Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.

Maintains safety files and records.

Plans and directs safety and health activities in industrial plant to evaluate and control environmental hazards.

Writes and delivers presentations to corporate officers or government officials regarding human resources policies and practices.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops implements and evaluates the organization's policies and procedures on recruitment, testing, selection, and job placement. Plans and directs activities of staff in carrying out such functions as developing sources of qualified applicants, conducting screening interviews, administering tests, checking references and background, evaluating applicant qualifications, and arranging for initial orientation and training of newly hired employees. Trains forklift operators to qualify for licensing. Enforces use of safety equipment. Tests noise levels and measures air quality. Lectures employees to obtain compliance with regulations. Develops and monitors emergency action plans. Investigates accidents and prepares accident reports. Assists management to prepare safety and health budget. Recommends changes in policies and procedures to prevent accidents and illness.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to employees, top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Required an active NJ. Driver's license. Continuing education in changing regulatory legislation governing compliance in OSHA, DOL, EEOC, DOT, FMCSR, EPA, DEP, and other agencies.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must have working knowledge and be able to operate computers and business software.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
