Silver Lake Hospital is a long-term acute care hospital with a reputation of providing patients with a place to heal before heading home. A long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) is an acute care specialty hospital that provides highly advanced and focused care for higher acuity patients who have not responded to short-term treatment in traditional general hospitals. The average length of stay in an LTACH is 25 days as compared to a 3-5 day average stay in a general hospital. POSITION SUMMARY
Supervises the daily operations of the Blood Bank to include, outstanding customer service, staffing, scheduling, and workflow. Supports and provides technical expertise in analyzing, interpreting and validating laboratory procedures of various complexities on biological materials such as blood, body fluids, and tissues for the hospital's patients . Assists the director in clinical and administrative departmental functions. This position does not involve direct patient care for a population of patients between the ages of 18 and older and does not require age specific experience, specialized training and/or expertise to serve this population.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1-33% of work time: Standing/walking, twisting, lifting/carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing, bending/stooping, using arm/leg/back muscles frequently or for extended periods, lifting requirements 2-30 pounds
34-66% of work time: Sitting
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a major in laboratory science, biological or chemical sciences or other relevant field. Degrees from foreign institutions will require credential equivalency evaluation.
At least 4 years experience as a medical technologist in Blood Bank.
Previous supervisory experience preferred.
MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification desired.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Good close vision and color perception required and able to read the Jaeger Eye Chart.
Possess superior written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read, understand and follow detailed procedures. Analytical, numerical and reasoning abilities necessary. Proven skills of critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making. Ability to prioritize, organize, and handle a high volume workload efficiently essential.
