Job description

The Regional Business Development Manager is responsible for quarterbacking and nurturing long sales cycle opportunities for capital equipment while working with direct sales engineers in a distribution network. This position will serve as the liaison between the OEM capital equipment builders and the distribution sales channel. The role will be collaborative, strategic, and focused on closing business within the assigned territory. Success in this role will be based on exceeding annual sales goals.

Essential Functions:

  • Establish strong working relationships within distribution channel including leadership, sales management, sales engineers, and application engineers
  • Understand that we sell through distribution to our customers and foster relationships accordingly
  • Establish strong working relationships with end-user customers' management, production teams, and maintenance teams
  • Extensive travel within the territory and occasional international travel to visit OEM capital equipment builders
  • Serve as liaison to distribution product experts
  • Coordinate product training for customers and distributors
  • Manage the sales process and lead the commercial aspects of the project
  • Work strategically to direct distribution efforts, including targeting of accounts
  • Assist in customer visits and utilize sales tools to create and deliver presentations
  • Attend regional as well as national shows and promotional events
  • Work with OEM Capital equipment builders to achieve strategic goals for their products
  • Conduct weekly calls with each distributor to ensure open communication
  • Motivate distribution channel and secure a share of their time in promoting products
  • Interface with distribution management and OEM capital equipment builders regarding goals, performance, strategies, and business planning
  • Maintain a 30/60/90 day forecast of projects
  • Lead negotiation of commercial conditions and purchase orders
  • Meet/exceed assigned annual quotas and goals
  • Provide market feedback and competitive intelligence from the field back to OEM capital equipment builders and distribution

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

Bachelor's degree in Business, Sales, Engineering, or related discipline is required.

  • At least five years' experience in strategic sales or business development
  • Strong aptitude in negotiating and commercial aspects of a high dollar sale
  • Experience working in or with distribution is preferred
  • Ability to read blueprints and part drawings preferred
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required
  • Strong mathematics and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both professional and non-professional, co-workers, management personnel, the public and others
  • Ability to work independently and solve complex problems with little oversight
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to think quickly, assess a situation and make a sound decision
  • Solid written and verbal communication, listening, organization and priority setting skills required
