The Vice President, Corporate Strategy is a high impact, highly visible role at BMS. The VP leads and oversees corporate strategy development at BMS, including the annual strategic planning process and ongoing refreshes of the strategic agenda. In addition, this individual will lead major enterprise-wide strategic initiatives and work with BMS leadership to frame strategic choices and drive to decisions. Strong leadership experience, and experience working closely with senior leadership, is required as this individual will manage the high-profile Strategic Planning team within the Enterprise Strategy function. This role reports to the Senior Vice President, Enterprise Strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Enterprise strategy development and strategic planning, including development of Annual Strategy Review Board materials, working closely with company leadership
- Identify and frame key strategic issues facing BMS; work with leadership to develop possible strategic choices and lead team to conduct compelling analysis
- Lead the ongoing refresh of the strategic agenda and lead / drive major enterprise level strategic initiatives, including directing analysis to provide insight and lead to decisions and actions
- Develop and synthesize perspectives on external environment, disruptive trends, and potential choices and strategic moves for BMS
- Leads process to establish and refresh enterprise ambition; integrate strategic planning findings to ensure appropriate allocation of company resources.
- Collaborate closely with internal Corporate & Business Development, Alliance Management, R&D, Commercial, Finance, and Business Insights & Analytics (BI&A) stakeholders and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Operational Excellence to define and oversee the annual strategic planning process and key milestones.
- Build team; manage and coach direct reports.
Qualifications & Experience
- Excels at asking the right questions, framing problems and discrete strategic options, and in driving analytical work
- Strategy consulting and /or Strategy team experience, coupled with biopharma or related industry experience
- Strong knowledge of biopharmaceutical industry landscape, issues, trends, and their business impact.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize and communicate high-level insights effectively to senior management internally and externally.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects efficiently with autonomy and consistently deliver commitments in a timely manner under pressure.
- Works well with and exerts influence on multi-disciplinary teams. Facilitates candid dialogue and cross-functional collaboration.
- Furthermore, this individual is required to have strong interpersonal skills as they will work with multiple senior internal stakeholders to facilitate highly visible and time-sensitive enterprise strategy projects.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in leadership and strategic planning within pharma, biotech, or related industries.
- MBA, PhD, and/or other industry-related advanced degree required.
