Reliability/ Failure Analysis Scientist
Summary:
Kelly is hiring a scientist for a company in the electronic industry that will develop and perform failure analysis and reliability testing for Alpha core product lines (solder paste, preforms, LED and sintered materials). The position is also responsible for assisting in carrying out day-to-day activity for Alpha product evaluation and characterization, development process recommendation through conducting experiments, gathering, analyzing and interpreting scientific data.
Responsibilities:
- Work as a failure analysis engineer in the R&D Department of lead solder materials manufacturer.
- Conduct root cause analysis of defects, field failures and experimental materials to identify problems and modify processing.
- Utilize various analytical material characterization tools/methods to analyze samples to resolve performance concerns.
- Examine and interpret fracture surfaces using stereo microscopy and SEM/EDS.
- Comprehend board and components design principles and electrical connections.
- Understand continuum mechanical concepts and theories of electrochemistry
- Perform microstructural analysis using light optical microscopy.
- Conduct root cause analysis of defects, field failures and experimental materials to identify problems and modify processing.
- Perform failure analysis of electronic components and microstructural analysis using light optical microscopy, SEM/EDS and x-ray.
- Manage heat treatment samples in metallurgical lab. Examine and interpret fracture surfaces using stereo microscopy and SEM/EDS.
- Identify opportunities that could benefit from innovative solutions to work with R&D, operations, and technical teams to develop innovative solutions.
- Present results and when applicable make recommendations to projects to improve performance.
- Assists in equipment maintenance
- Write technical reports showing metallurgical results.
- Manage heat treatments samples in metallurgical lab.
- Further develop and enhance analysis techniques in order to offer support for complex failure mechanism determination
- Generate technical reports, record test results on standardized forms and write test reports describing procedures used Best Practice documents, SOPs
- Interact with R&D team, Alpha marketing and sales regarding various technical issues
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline plus five years of experience. A Master of Science is preferred with a minimum of two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Knowledge of basic chemistry and materials, research literature, and related processes
- Experience with lead solder materials
- Strong knowledge of software's like MS Office
