Summary of Duties:
- Supervises Machine Shop operations
- Provides team leadership, guidance, and support in the performance of manufacturing, quality and production control
- Facilitates high mix, low volume production machine shop activities including mechanical assembly, machining, tool fabrication, model building and production of engineering prototypes and fixtures
- Able to independently resolve most prototyping and manufacturing operation issues (customer requirements, material shortages, facilities issues, technical problems) within defined operations parameters, engaging Sr. Management as needed to escalate or revisit based on changing business requirements
- Evaluates requirements for staffing, equipment, and facilities within the areas of responsibility; implements Quality Policies
- Assures employees are trained and assigned to perform necessary operations including conformance to specifications
- Assures compliance to and encourages employee involvement in HS&E activities, security policies, good housekeeping, cost effectiveness, company policies
- May ensure departmental compliance with internal procedures and the regulatory requirements of the U.S. Department of Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency, International Civil Aviation Organization, Department of Energy, International Air Transport Association, General Services Administration, and Motor Carrier Safety Act in the handling and shipment of hazardous materials
- Promotes and supports continuous improvement in the areas of prototyping and manufacturing process methods and recommends improvements
- Interfaces effectively with NNSA, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Engineering, Program Management and other support organizations
- Interprets and coordinates production and inspection schedules, and document changes to meet priorities; arranges disposition of material
- Evaluates individual and team performance
You Must Have:
- US citizenship needed to obtain and maintain required US Dept of Energy "Q" level security clearance
- Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience, or Associate's degree and 3 years of related experience, or HS diploma/GED and 4 years of related experience
We Value:
- Working knowledge of production planning methods and manufacturing and quality operations is preferred
- May require additional certification and/or experience for certain manufacturing departments
- Understanding of team building and group dynamics including conflict resolution and problem solving skills
- Ability to lead and motivate in a diverse work environment
- Demonstrated reading, writing, presentation and interpersonal skills necessary to train, organize, and facilitate teams
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Experience with Microsoft office applications, including: MS Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
