Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator- Buffalo, NY
Compeer is an international mental health agency located in 8 states and 4 countries. Our purpose is "promoting good mental health through meaningful friendships." We are headquartered in Buffalo, NY and have 12 VISTA positions open in NY, PA, IA, NC and FL. The member's role will be to serve as a Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator and build the capacity of the site in recruiting more volunteers to be matched with clients by creating and implementing a recruitment strategy. Member Activities: 1. Create a Volunteer Advisory board. a. Assess where current volunteers are coming from. b. Identify the challenges in recruiting volunteers c. Identify the skills, abilities and experiences desired in a volunteer. 2. Understand the Compeer model and steps to becoming a volunteer. a. Attend training to learn about good Mental Health. b. Set up Volunteer Focus groups to gain greater understanding of why people volunteer with Compeer. Plan for outreach and recruitment Member Activities: 1. Develop list of organizations, businesses, churches and civic groups to outreach to. 2. Based upon previous research create marketing materials targeting specific audiences. 3. Create Volunteer Recruitment binder with updated Volunteer Recruitment materials. 4. Conduct 10 presentations or tabling events for businesses, churches, civic groups and community-based organizations to promote the need for volunteers for Compeer. Ideal candidates will be organized, detail oriented, have good people skills, comfortable at public speaking, and strong computer skills. Members will learn and be trained in the Mental Health field and be able to not only use those skills for this position but for the rest of their lives to benefit themselves, friends and family members. Member Duties : Create a Volunteer Recruitment Strategy Plan that will live on after their term of service as a strategy to attract and recruit volunteers that can be matched 1:1 with a client with a diagnosed mental illness. Set up outreach systems and build partnerships with community organizations, businesses, churches and civic groups to create targeted marketing materials - to spread the word about the need for Volunteers.
