Big Reuse is a non-profit organization providing community based environmental and waste reduction initiatives. Big Reuse programs include our reuse center, 2 community composting sites, environmental outreach, and job training.


This position is based at our Brooklyn reuse center. The position has some flexibility in schedule and in person/remote.

We are looking for an efficient Human Resources (HR) and Training Partnerships Coordinator - the job will be split 60/40 between providing standard HR services to Big Reuse 60% and coordinating the growth of job training programs partnerships 40%.


Supervisor: Executive Director and Finance Director


HR Coordination - 60% of time


  • Facilitate daily HR functions.
  • Serve as a point of contact with benefit administrators.
  • Respond to internal and external HR related requests and provide assistance
  • Create and maintain electronic records of employees including offer letters, benefits info and performance evaluations and reviews.
  • Ensure employment requirements are met.
  • Support the recruitment/hiring process by sourcing candidates, performing background checks, assisting in shortlisting.
  • Coordinate training sessions and seminars. Help managers develop training resources for their staff.
  • Perform onboarding and update records with new hires
  • Assist in HR projects, like collection of employee feedback.
  • Educate staff about benefits and oversee the completion of benefit documentation.
  • Research answers to questions regarding eligibility, benefits and other pertinent information.
  • Assist with performance management procedures including evaluations, terminations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Run payroll weekly in coordination with Finance Director and resolve timesheet submittal issues
  • Track Paid Time Off
  • Organize 'All Staff' meetings (1 or 2 per year)


Training Partnership Coordination - 40% of time


  • Maintain and develop relationships with job training programs or college work study programs.
  • Onboard and schedule trainees with Big Reuse managers.
  • Submit trainee timesheets to training programs.
  • Troubleshoot placements with training programs and managers.
  • Research and present other options for expanding training programs.
  • Help develop training curriculum to be used by managers with trainees.


Skills / Experience


  • Bachelor's Degree or work with equivalent level of management experience.
  • Proven experience as an HR coordinator or relevant human resources/administrative position.
  • Service Oriented - actively looking for ways to help people.
  • Tech savvy - enjoys finding the best software for the task at hand, researching existing functionality and using it to the fullest including GSuite, Excel and payroll processing software.
  • Fantastic organizational skills
  • Active Learning - understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Active Listening - giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made.
  • Critical Thinking - using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

Compensation:

FSLA Status: Non-exempt

Pay: $50,000
