ROLE SUMMARY
Reporting to the Vaccines Global President, this individual is responsible for the early commercial development of pipeline assets, market development strategies and implementation in partnership with Development, Medical, Regulatory, Global Franchise and country colleagues. This role requires frequent partnership with the Vaccines Research Unit (RU) and Global Medical Development and Scientific/Clinical Affairs (MDSCA).
The position has overall responsibility for maximization of the population health impact and global value for Vaccines and for Vaccine assets developed internally and externally (e.g. Business Development), excluding mRNA, from Pre-Proof of Concept (POC) up to the start of phase 3. He/she is the key liaison between the BU and the RU for all commercial matters for Next Gen PCV, Lyme, GBS, Penta Infant and all non-mRNA early pipeline assets.
The Commercial Development Lead will manage an organization which is comprised of colleagues with expertise and global responsibility for the commercialization of new vaccines. This individual collaborates broadly across Vaccines and partner functions within Pfizer - like pricing, policy, analytics and others - to inform and make the strongest decisions for each asset and for Pfizer. They develop a team of experts who act as global single points of contact for assigned assets.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads all global commercial activities for Pre-POC and pipeline assets in collaboration with Pfizer's Research Units, Corporate Business Development, MDSCA and other stakeholders, including creation of Target Product Profiles, Commercial Attractiveness assessments of new pre-clinical assets, and key value drivers for programs
Provides commercial insights, assessments and strategic guidance to inform the annual Tetrad Vaccines Development Portfolio prioritization and leads the annual PSI prioritization submission to ensure appropriate dedication of funds for new phase 3, life cycle and local buy-up programs
Responsible for the development of a DP3 business case to obtain final phase 3 development funding from PSI, requesting total development funding of $200M - $1200M
Provides commercial insights to Business Development assessments and proactively identifies business development opportunities to maximize the long-term value of Pfizer's vaccines portfolio
Works in close partnership with MDSCA & RU leaders to foster a strong, collaborative partnership, with frequent communication and strong teamwork to ensure strong RU participation and contribution to the development and implementation of disease area strategies
Accountable for ensuring effective governance of Vaccines Tetrad sessions; assigns a colleague on the team responsibility for coordination of agendas, pre-reads, action items, follow-ups, etc.
Holds and efficiently manages the commercial development budgets for Vaccines; Accountable for delivering an annual Op Plan for Commercial Development assets
Builds and develops a strong team; invests in the creation of a values-driven culture; participates as a member of the Global Vaccines Leadership Team
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
BA/BS required
Minimum of 15 years of experience with pharmaceutical industry experience in marketing, strategy, new product launch and business development
Experience with global product launches including developing pre-launch positioning and strategies
Experience in strategic plan development and execution
Working knowledge of the methods, tools and techniques of business consulting; selects from range of diagnostic methods to design analysis appropriate to each project; incorporates Customer Insights and market intelligence into strategy, planning and execution
Works effectively with others; shares responsibilities and credit; develops self and others through teamwork; helps others take appropriate risks; consistently celebrates and rewards individual and team accomplishments; instills in others a sense of initiative, responsibility and ownership; leads by example; is seen as a role model through demonstration of Pfizer values
Exceptional communication / influencing skills required: demonstrated experience representing opportunities/brand plans to senior leadership
Analytical powerhouse. Hands-on experience leading financial valuation, forecasting, business proposal and/or other related projects
Experience interfacing/collaborating successfully with Research, Development, Regulatory and other functions
Ability to prioritize Disease / Therapeutic Area priorities, value drivers, and resource allocation required to optimize growth
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced degree strongly preferred
Deep Commercial Development experience highly preferred
Prior Vaccines experience preferred
Prior direct or matrixed leadership experience preferred
Demonstrated ability to quickly understand scientific content and population health data and use that to articulate a well-defined commercial opportunity
Demonstrated success interfacing with external alliance partners
Prior experience in all phases of business development including: opportunity identification, commercial assessment, negotiation and implementation
Experience in business development deals including: acquisitions, divestitures, partnerships, joint ventures, and co-development opportunities
Experience leading Marketing and/or Commercial organizations
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
Some domestic and international travel required - up to 20%
