Job description

Manhattan Psychiatric Center (MPC) is looking for a dynamic, clinically astute physician to oversee a team of 14 Physicians/Medical Specialists. The Chief of Medical Services/Medical Specialist 3 supervises the medical care of all patients in the services of MPC. The Chief of Medicine/Medical Specialist 3 works closely with MPC's Clinical Director and Executive Director to ensure comprehensive intermediate care to all patients of MPC.


The Chief of Medicine/Medical Specialist 3:

  • Oversees the services provided by Physicians/Medical Specialists and other medical professionals (i.e. neurology, radiology, dental, infection control, lab services, pharmacy and therapeutics, podiatry, gynecology, optometry, employee health, safety, and welfare).
  • Participates in administrative decision making, recommends and approves relevant policies and procedures, and is responsible for communicating issues and concerns to clinical leadership when warranted.
  • Establishes and implements policies, procedures, and guidelines designed to assure the provision of necessary, comprehensive medical services.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and implements performance improvement programs.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the knowledge of regulatory compliance (i.e. NYS DOH, Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services and The Joint Commission).
  • Contributes as member of MPC's Executive Cabinet, Mortality Review Committee, Drug Monitoring Committee, Incident Review Committee, Infectious Disease Committee, Quarterly Review/Liaison Meeting with Bronx Lebanon Hospital.

  • Nursing students

MPC also offers a psychiatric clerkship for medical students studying at St. George's University, among other affiliated schools.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a license and current registration to practice medicine in New York State
  • Certification in a medical specialty by a Member Board of the ABMS
  • One year of post-certification experience within the medical specialty
  • Eligibility for full and unconditional participation in Medicaid and Medicare programs
