Job description

One or more full-time salaried positions for post-doctoral research scientists with a Ph.D. and training in translational epidemiology/public health. The candidate will work on a number of epidemiological, clinical, and mechanistic studies related to (1) mechanisms of transmission of depressive illness across multiple generations, and (2) understanding the effects of maternal psychiatric illness and medication use during pregnancy on offspring brain and behavioral development.

A degree in a public health related field is required, with preferred experience in perinatal studies and in neuroscience.

This position is not funded through a T32 training grant; foreign applicants with the appropriate work authorizations/visas are eligible.

The successful candidate will possess excellent data analysis skills including knowledge of statistical principles, multiple software packages (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS) as well as strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience with writing and publishing manuscripts.

Duties/responsibilities:

The candidate will participate in and complete research projects related to four NIH-funded studies. Responsibilities include collection and analysis of data related to these grants, and presenting and publishing findings in high impact journals. At the same time, the candidate will be encouraged to use these studies, and the academic infrastructure, to develop their own research focus and eventually obtain independent funding (e.g., K Award).

Minimum Qualifications:

A PhD in epidemiology, neuroscience, or related clinical or public health field is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ability to work with large datasets is also preferred. Working knowledge of related fields (e.g., neuroscience, genetics) is recommended but not a requirement. Experience with administrative components of research (e.g., preparing IRB documents and grant submissions) is also strongly preferred.
