Description

The primary objective for this position is to lead projects for new product development pigment technology for a range of applications. The position needs to develop an understanding of how a pigment's structure and composition relates to its application and performance properties to solve complex technical problems.

Project leadership skills are required, which include setting milestones, designing and executing experiments, evaluating and analyzing data and reporting findings. Utilization of statistical methods and sound scientific practices is crucial to the role. The chemist must accurately communicate the results and work with the team to develop action plans to achieve the project objectives while focused on meeting milestones.

The role requires collaboration within the Technology group and throughout the organization, including manufacturing, marketing, regulatory, and EHS. The position may supervise the daily work of 1 or 2 technicians, ensuring that the projects are following sound experimental principles and safe work practices. The role requires that all lab safety procedures are followed, safe operating procedures for new methods and equipment are followed and written, and that ISO compliance is maintained. The role must evaluate the safety of every experiment and integrate safety into all work activities.

Position Requirements

  • Must have a fundamental understanding of physical chemistry related to particles and pigments, as well as a firm grasp of structure-function interactions.
  • Must be able work independently and to convey experimental results in both written and oral reports and presentations.
  • Must demonstrate a good grasp of project leadership and experimental design.
  • Preferably a Ph.D. in physical chemistry, materials science, organic chemistry or related discipline or a Masters of Science degree in chemistry or related discipline with 2 to 5 years of experience in a research lab with effect pigment focus.
  • A background in Design of Experiments and statistical methodologies is beneficial.
