Manager, Volunteer Services

Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging is a premiere, not-for-profit organization in Cleveland, Ohio, and a nationally and internationally recognized leading organization in the fields of aging research and services. We are seeking a full time Volunteer Services Manager.

Position Summary:

  • Enhance and increase the capacity for service delivery through the development, supervision and management of volunteer resources.
  • Recruits, interviews, screens, selects, orients and assigns volunteers to departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following description is a general representation of the key duties and responsibilities of the position.

  • Regularly communicates with departments to assess current and forecasted volunteer needs;
  • Interface regularly with Institutional Advancement department and participate in meetings as needed.
  • Create/amend applicable position service descriptions and arrange for appropriate training;
  • Maintain and grow volunteer base through outreach to individuals, community-based organizations and groups, colleges/universities, and corporations as needed;
  • Develop, administer, and review policies and procedures which guide the volunteer programs and services, and reflect the overall values of the organization;
  • Develop a budget and assess available resources for the volunteer program activities;
  • Maintains appropriate volunteer files and documentation as required;
  • Track and prepare a monthly report on the contribution of the volunteer program to the organization;
  • Develop and maintain a consistent process to review applications, check references and interview potential individual volunteers;
  • Assess interests/skills of volunteers and match with appropriate activities;
  • Manage comprehensive orientation process for new volunteers;
  • Respond to internship requests; assess interests/skills of interns and match with appropriate staff or projects;
  • Participate in special event planning; participate in events as needed;
  • Maintains communication with both departments and volunteers to determine satisfaction with assignment/performance. Regularly rounds departments to evaluate volunteer performance;
  • Strives to regularly recognize volunteers throughout the year. Plans and executes annual volunteer recognition;
  • Encourages community involvement by schools, churches, service clubs, etc. via special volunteer project involvement and/or regular volunteering. Gives presentations on volunteer programs at community meetings or invites community to Benjamin Rose events to further involvement.

Qualifications:

  • Specific knowledge, training or skills required to perform the duties of this position including specific courses, training programs or required certifications. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position.

· Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and/or additional job-related experience in lieu of the degree;

· Strong verbal, written, oral and electronic communication skills, including public speaking;

· Demonstrated proficiency in the use MS Office, database management and financial software support;

· Strong analytical, leadership and planning skills;

· Multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks;

· Attention to detail and ability to handle information confidentially;

· Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills;

· Ability to work effectively as part of a team and also take initiative when the need arises;

· Razor's Edge experience a plus.

B. Previous Experience that is necessary to qualify for this position:

· Minimum of three (3) years of experience in related volunteer services in a supervisory, management or leadership role including recruiting orienting, and training volunteers and employees.

· Previous experience in project management, event planning, budget administration and program development.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard and telephone;

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work;
  • Light to moderate lifting is required, up to 20 pounds;
  • Ability to uphold the stress of traveling;
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required;
  • Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
  • Ability to work in a confined area;
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time;
  • Work environment is stressful at times.

Pay: $38,000.00 - $51,000.00 per year
