Job description

CFD Research is seeking a qualified and motivated Microbiologist to support projects encompassing the virology and immunology of SARS-CoV-2 and the utilization of advanced molecular biology techniques to develop biological recognition elements (BRE) to enrich libraries for next-generation sequencing and molecular detection. This position is located at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base . The candidate will perform molecular biology techniques to create and screen DNA libraries and/or phage selection as well as perform DNA extraction from samples and analyze them for genetic variants associated with aeromedical conditions. Candidate will also perform next generation sequencing, PCR, and microarray genotyping as needed in support of PHT research objectives characterizing library screening performance and/or aeromedical risk. Candidate will assist biological and medical scientists in the overall operation of the laboratory by maintaining equipment, updating and reviewing procedures, experiment planning and design, reporting, and other tasks as required to ensure proper function of the laboratory as well.

Requirements:

* Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess an active Secret Clearance
* PhD in a Biological Science with an emphasis in cellular biology (microbiology, immunology, virology, cellular biology, or similar) and 0-4 years of experience performing mammalian cell culture of pathogenic viruses.
* Experience with immunological assays (ELISA, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, microscopy, or similar).
* Experience with cellular function tests (live/dead quantification, live cell fluorescent labeling, apoptosis/necrosis, MTT/MTS, or similar).
* Experience with scientific writing (peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, and/or conference proceedings).
* Experience with advanced molecular biology techniques such as real-time PCR, next generation sequencing, molecular cloning, or similar is desired.
