Position Overview
DAVEY RESOURCE GROUP, Inc. (DRG) has an opportunity for an Environmental Scientist Specialist in Kent, Ohio. DRG is a leader in tree care and ecological science throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Job Duties
The Environmental Consulting team at DRG is focused on the environmental consulting needs of our clients. The primary duties of an environmental scientist are to assist with ecological assessments, data collection, report writing, ecological restoration, and tree inventory projects throughout Ohio. This supporting role will require skilled work and efficient communication with Site and Project Managers across both DRG's ecological consulting, restoration services, and urban forestry service lines.
Ecological consulting work includes field data collection, report writing, and agency coordination. Ecological restoration work will require inspecting and maintaining a wide range of habitat restoration projects. Urban forestry work will require collecting data and inspecting trees.
Daily tasks may include water resource assessments and wetland delineations, botanical surveys, endangered species surveys, regulatory permitting, GIS/AutoCAD mapping, data collections using GPS, tree species identification, tree risk assessment/mitigation, tree maintenance, tree planting, seeding/plug installation, prescribed burns, and invasive species control using both mechanical and chemical means. As experience is gained, duties may transition to a more singular purpose as a more focused career path develops.
Education and Qualifications
- Ability and willingness to travel.
- Ability to work outdoors and hike in varying terrain and weather conditions.
- Ability to identify native and/or non-native species in Ohio.
- Four-year degree in Biology, Ecology, Forestry, Urban Forestry, Horticulture, Arboriculture, or Landscape Architecture is preferred.
- Current Driver's License and Driving Record in good standing.
- Working knowledge of computers and Word, Excel, Google Applications, and GIS/GPS
