We are looking for a scrub tech with cath lab experience !

Job Description

Overall Responsibility:

The Cath Lab Scrub Tech performs tasks which support the overall operation and efficiency of the Cath Lab Department. Duties include pre-procedure preparation of patients, intra-procedure care directly assisting the physician during Cath procedures under fluoroscopy and post-cath patient care. In addition, the Cath Lab Scrub Tech transports patients to and from the Cath Lab and performs post-catheterization hemostasis as needed. Assumes responsibility and accountability for the performance of duties and phases of cardiac procedures. The Cath Lab Tech will assist the physician in surgical and invasive percutaneous procedures which may include: diagnostic and peripheral angiograms, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, coronary stenting, carotid angiogram, renal angiogram, iliac angiogram, temporary pacemaker and assistive device placement. The Cath Lab Tech may also perform supply inventory and lab administrative duties. The Cath Lab Tech will observe and monitor the patients' vital signs and document patient responses to the procedures.

Key tasks and responsibilities (essential functions)

  • Preparing and draping the patient prior to procedure
  • Assisting the physicians performing diagnostic procedures
  • Observing and monitoring the patient's blood pressure as directed by the physician as well as using other physiological monitoring equipment. Continuous monitoring of the EKG and the ability to identify arrhythmias.
  • Handling and passing instruments, guide wires, catheters or other necessary items
  • Select the proper technical factors and positioning of the patient to demonstrate anatomy and suspected pathology
  • Maintain integrity and sterility of the equipment and supplies throughout the procedure
  • Recognize and communicate the electrocardiographic and hemodynamic changes to the physician and other staff members throughout the procedure
  • Utilize immobilization devices as appropriate for the comfort and safety of the patient during the procedure
  • Provide care for adult patients.
  • May perform moderate or waived point of care testing per CLIA guidelines
  • Operate monitoring equipment, record and interpret the data.
  • Loads the pressure injector with contrast media required as directed and set the controls for appropriate volume and pressure and triggers injection upon physician order.
  • Assist with cardiac output determination and other calculations. Has a good working knowledge of diagnostic catheters, sterile supplies and interventional catheter-based equipment.
  • Respond quickly and efficiently in an emergency procedure when necessary.
  • Check, test, and maintain imaging equipment in Operating Room suite and report findings to the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).
  • Knowledge of and practices concept of "ALARA"
  • Proficient in vascular access site sheath removal and assessment.
  • Ordering and stocking.
  • Anticipate the needs of the physician.
  • Clean and prepare rooms between procedures and after last case; restock supplies.
  • Prepare pressure monitoring manifold and monitor its functioning.
  • Responsible for care of instruments/equipment during intra/postoperative phase, including cleaning and processing of instruments. Keep catheters and guidewires flushed and cleaned throughout the procedure.
  • Consult with other staff members when in question or unfamiliar with equipment or procedure.
  • Regularly collaborate with other members of the nursing team, in order to maintain equipment and supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Perform services requiring technical or manual skills under the direction of Cardiac Cath Lab RN.
  • Education / Precepting of new hires.
  • Critical thinking skills - uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Adherence to OSHA standards
  • Assumes responsibility for continually increasing knowledge and skills pertinent to the position.
  • Willingly takes on additional assignments and responsibilities, shows initiative.
  • Works cooperatively with others. Displays positive level of enthusiasm and interest in their job and the practice.
  • Complies with standards of conduct and supports ethical practices as indicated in the compliance plan.
  • Exhibits good grooming habits and adheres to the dress code policy.
  • Follows all attendance policies and exhibits regular attendance.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience required: High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have at least two years of experience working in an interventional cath lab. Must be proficient at patient monitoring, procedure documentation and operation of imaging equipment. Experience with non-cardiac, peripheral vascular angiography and intervention is preferred.

Environmental and physical requirements - Candidate must be able to read, write and speak English fluently, have cognitive skills for math, reading, filing and sterile technique skills. Communication skills to deal well with employees and physicians. Vision for near, mid-range, far and accommodation. Hearing for low, medium, and high pitch. Job requires physical ability for long term standing, occasional sitting, crouching, kneeling, frequent walking, reaching with reaching above head and below waist. Job risk include exposure to blood and body fluids (high), contact with laser and chemicals, lifting of 30 - 40 pounds, and exposure to infectious disease.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $30.00 - $38.00 per hour
