SUMMARY:
Responsible for complex administrative support under minimal supervision, research and balance general ledger accounts
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Pay insurance companies timely after reconciliation of accounts payable records.
- Reconcile carrier discrepancy statements for agencies and send discrepancy items list to appropriate agency for correction.
- Correct carrier and agency commission errors.
- Reconcile account currents for agencies as payment is prepared
- Assist agencies in clearing old outstanding items as needed.
- Invoice outside agents for company payables paid by North American Group.
- Pull reports for direct bill commissions from carrier websites.
- Process customer refund checks.
- Reconcile carrier payable reports to the general ledger.
- Prepare quarterly surplus lines tax filings for Oklahoma clients.
- Back up for cash receipts posting.
- Participate in seminars and other training for knowledge and skill development.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- High school diploma required
- College level accounting courses or equivalent experience preferred
- A minimum of two years' experience in agency accounting with demonstrated knowledge of accounts receivable and payable
- Basic accounting knowledge of journal entries
- Ability to work within a fast paced, changing priority environment
- Self-motivated, with the initiative to prioritize and be self-directed
- Regular and punctual attendance is required
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally, and in writing
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both colleagues, and managers, across all levels
- Ability to promote, and maintain a team environment, willing to find accommodating solutions for our customers, companies and the Agency
- Ability to successfully adhere to company policies and procedures, as well as maintain strict confidentiality
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong computer skills in MS Excel and Word, with understanding of automated systems for insurance agencies
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Detail oriented, accurate with inputting data, and have math skills including ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers.
- Team player and willing to find accommodating solutions for our customers, companies, and Agency.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS:
- Fast-paced, multi-tasking, office environment with periodic high disruption and changing priorities
- Ability to perform approximately 80% sedentary work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and negligible force frequently
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally
- Requires operation of a computer workstation, including keyboard and video display
