About the Job
We have an exciting opening for a part time, Veterans OnSite Resident Peer for our Health Care for the Homeless Veterans (HCVH) program in Medford, Oregon. ColumbiaCare Services is looking for the right individual to work peer to peer (meaning you are a Veteran, preferably with experiences of homelessness), and are willing to share your personal experiences with other Veterans affected by homelessness and/or mental health and substance abuse challenges.
This position will be required to support in the development of life skills and therapeutic interventions; adhere to policies and procedures; perform documentation, demonstrate professional boundaries and ethics; be willing to share personal mental illness experiences with peers; May participate in team meetings as needed; May assist consumers with direct community resources, etc. In addition, direct care staff must be willing and able to successfully complete our Verbal and Physical Intervention (VPI) training, which requires performing various physical, hands-on maneuvers and techniques.
Work Schedule: ~10 hours per week (overnights and on call)
What You'll Make
This position does require living on-site and working 10-15 hours per week on call in exchange for $600 rent compensation per month (which covers a private bedroom/bathroom with shared kitchen and common space, with utilities paid); plus, a $400 stipend per month.
About the Program
The Valor Pass program provides outreach and case management services to veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. These services include multiple levels of care, including outreach to shelters, a contract residential treatment site, transitional housing, and Veteran Affairs Supported Housing (VASH). All eligible veterans are encouraged to accept referral to medical clinics for assessment of physical and health. In addition, we coordinate with VA clinics that are also available for assistance with chemical dependency and problems with mental health.
What You'll Need
- MUST be a Veteran, preferably with own personal experiences of homelessness
- Preferred experience working with veterans and/or homeless
- Degree in in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or Human Development is a PLUS
Successful applicants MUST also have a valid Oregon driver's license, maintain a safe driving record, and the ability to pass a DHS criminal background check.
