Job description

Scope of Position:

The Applications Engineer/Project Manager (AE/PM) shall provide the primary technical support for the sales & marketing team, shall be responsible for managing the technical aspects of the sales process. Working with the Sales Team, the AE/PM will provide technical solutions for Powin Energy product offerings and project proposals.

The AE/PM must have the ability to perform conceptual design, feasibility & financial (budgeting) analysis, basic layout and cost estimating of grid-scale and commercial/industrial energy storage systems and microgrid solutions. Having technical experience with a business-oriented mindset will make a successful candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify value advantages of different products and system design approaches
  • Identify and outline the requirements of customer RFP/RFO's
  • Write proposals and responses to RFP/RFO's
  • Design and create high-level as well as detailed system design drawings, layouts, schematics
  • Specify appropriate system components, calculate component ratings and quantities, and create detailed bills-of-material for material and labor cost estimates
  • Develop technical manuals for system installation and operation.
  • Develop O&M structure/process (e.g., estimate for customer O&M plans, standard & extended warranties).
  • Understand regulatory requirements specific to geographic locations, individual utilities and governing agencies
  • Interface with vendors to understand the form, fit and function of their products and services; and determine which products are best suited for an application or project
  • Request quotes for vendor products and services and maintain a comparative database of manufacturer's pricing
  • Maintain database of vendor technical information
  • Interface with engineering team to determine the most effective solutions to meet customer RFP requirements
  • Provide technical support when handing projects off to engineering and operations teams
  • Travel is necessary for this position.
  • Assist sales team to create customer presentations
  • Assist sales team to develop pricing models for proposals
  • Support sales and commercial team to deliver company product and service presentations to prospective customers and clients

Minimum Qualifications :

  • BS in Electrical Engineering
  • Strong understanding of utility generation project development process
  • Able to read and understand system schematics, single-line drawings, mechanical elevation, and building layout drawings
  • Strong written and oral skills, must be a proven and competent English writer, able to create grammatically correct and properly structured English proposal documents.
  • Competent with ACAD or equivalent drafting tools
  • Competent with MS Office products (Excel, Work, PowerPoint, Projects, Outlook, etc.) as well as graphical design tools (ACAD, Paint, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Understanding of UL, IEEE, and NEC standards
  • Knowledgeable in utility systems and interconnection requirements for electric generators, medium-voltage system design and construction background is desirable
  • Passion for innovation, ability to adapt to fasting changing market demands, working independently and as a team member
  • Willingness to take ownership and produce results
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills

Desirable Qualifications :

  • Experience with the energy storage and renewable energy markets, projects and products (bi-directional inverters, various battery chemistries, etc.)
  • Advanced engineering degree
  • 5+ years of experience with energy storage systems
  • Experience with transmission and distribution infrastructures
  • Experience with the installation of large generation systems
  • Knowledge of high-power generator functional requirements (FERC, NERC, PREPA, etc.)
  • Knowledge of developers, IPP's, integrators, unregulated and regulated utility companies installing and operating renewable energy generation

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
