Job description
Description
Title :
National Business Development Manager (BDM)
North American Microgrid Competency Center (MGCC)
Summary:
This position will manage all elements of the business development and sale of distributed energy resource projects. Leading or co-leading the commercial, partnering and capture strategy for both CAPEX and OPEX funded projects are keys to success. Attending and leading microgrid focused commercial events, workshops, and sales calls are all important customer facing activities.
Schneider Electric approaches DER projects from a prime, general, or sub- contracting basis. In other cases, Schneider Electric approaches these opportunities on technology provider only basis. Variables such as SE content, right to win, timing, margin plan, and customer/investor commitment help the team determine the exact/best approach.
Once a project opportunity has been identified, the BDM will coordinate and lead multiple project teams with external partner companies and different entities within Schneider Electric. Go-no-go evaluations and consensus building are important activities for leading successful development and capture teams. Internal teams in Schneider Electric may include any and all of the following: project development, product management, solution development, quotation teams, execution teams and investors. Creating content and managing written communication is a critical skill. Assisting in the management of pre-sales development spend is also required.
This role will require business travel of up to 50% in Western N.A. and sometimes other international locations.
Further Duties:
The position will often manage the team collaborative process that produces important RFI, RFP, and RFQ responses, as well as unsolicited proposals and intermediate documents like feasibility studies, rough order of magnitude (ROM) documents, and equipment quotations. This includes ensuring the diverse group of content creators meet deadlines. Collaborators can include outside entities, multiple business units from within Schneider Electric, and governmental entities.
This position will coordinate and sometimes lead the team in describing various parts of project scope, development, design, engineering, installation, and construction phases. Project sizes vary but will generally be in the $500k - $25M range for SE revenue share, and two to three times that for DER project investors.
Studying relevant Schneider Electric past performance and competitive marketing communication is important. Coordinating with clients to obtain relevant project information under a deadline is commonly needed.
Leading go-no-go decisions, approaches, win themes, and ensuring this information is cascaded effectively to tables, illustrations, and text. Highlighting key differentiators while making documents inviting and clear is a compulsory creative skill for the position. Written communication is critical for success and often writing must be done on the clients' schedule, in the clients' format(s) while using the clients' expected language - in format, tone and word choice.
A flexible work schedule is required. Leading in a way to drawing out the best from the solution and project development teams, without having mastery of every technical aspect is a necessary skill. Initiative, persistence, communication, relationship building, and persuasion are important traits and skills.
Sales calls, trade events & customer facing activity is critical to develop the commercial teams and maintain focused alliances with selling, development, and execution partners. Knowledge of partner/contractor technologies and their relative strengths and weaknesses is important.
